rhabdite (plural rhabdites)

1. (zoology) A minute smooth rod-like or fusiform structure found in the tissues of many Turbellaria.
   • 2017, R. Sluys, A Monograph of the Marine Triclads, page 6:

     The rhabdite-forming cells are situated in the parenchyma underneath the longitudinal subepidermal muscle layer.

2. (zoology) One of the hard parts forming the ovipositor of insects.
3. Any mineral that is characterized by an elongated, rod-like or cylindrical crystal form.
4. A rhabdophane found in some meteorites.
   • 2023, John G. Burke, Cosmic Debris: Meteorites in History:

     In 1882 he analyzed the phosphides in the Cranboume meteorite and found that rhabdite corresponded to the formula (Fe4Ni3)P, whereas schreibersite had the formula (Fe2Ni)?P.
