一つのチップ上にコンピュータの中央演算処理機能をつめ込んだマイクロプロセッサを中心に作られた“小さな"コンピュータのこと.必要に応じて補助記憶装置や入出力制御回路を付加し種々の目的に合わせた構成が組める.
記憶装置及び入出力装置を含み,処理装置が一つ以上のマイクロプロセッサから構成されるディジタル計算機.
空調機(エアコン),カメラ,その他の機器の中にはマイクロコンピュータが入っている
一般にマイクロコンピュータというと,小型のコンピュータシステムを指し,これらにスモールビジネスコンピュータ(オフィスコンピュータ;オフコン)とパーソナルコンピュータ(パソコン)が含まれる
代表的なマイクロコンピュータは,入力装置,出力装置,補助記憶装置ごとにインタフェースを別個に備えている
大部分のマイクロコンピュータは,マザーボードと呼ばれる金属製の機構に組み立てられている
1台のマイクロコンピュータに接続できる周辺機器の数は,使用可能なスロットの数によって決まる
