Inherited from 中期英語 tresour, from Old French tresor (“treasury”), from Latin thēsaurus (“treasure”), from Ancient Greek θησαυρός (thēsaurós, “treasure house”). Mostly displaced native 古期英語 goldhord (See goldhoard) and 古期英語 ġestrēon. Doublet of thesaurus.
