Shannon
人名.シャノン(Shannon, Claude Elwood, 1916～)は,1948年に論文「通信の数学的理論」(a mathematical theory of communications)の中に通信系の模型を発表した.情報源で発生する情報をその利用者(受信者)が利用できる位置に運ぶことが通信であることを示した.文字や音声の瞬間値のような情報の表現要素を順序をつけて並べたものが通報であり,送信機は通報を入力として,通信路上を適切に伝送できるように通報の形を変換する機能を持っており,これを符号化と呼んだ.一般的に符号化とは,高能率,高忠実に行う必要がある.できるだけ時間的な能率を上げること(高能率)と,通信路上で雑音による妨害が加わるのにもかかわらず,できるだけ少ない誤りで伝送することをいう.
シャノンの第一基本定理は,通信路に最もよく適合した情報源が接続されたときはじめて,通信路の通信容量に等しい情報伝送速度で伝送ができるというものであり,シャノンの第二基本定理は,適当な符号化を行えばいくらでも小さなあいまい度で情報を伝送することが可能である,といっている.
