Originally called the planes of the head, the model eventually became known as the Asaro head within the art world, named after the model's creator, artist John Asaro.

Asaro head (plural Asaro heads)
- (art) A three-dimensional simplified, geometric sculpture of the human head used by artists to understand how light and shadow fall on facial planes; a method of revealing volume and form for more realistic drawing and painting, rather than just copying features; breaks the complex head shape into flat, angular surfaces.
