     magnaque potiti per loca victoria iam proceres suos, quorum quasi fortuna vincebant, non puros homines, sed semideos id est Ansis vocaverunt.

     And as they had won great victory in this region, they called their leaders, by whose fortunes they seemed to have conquered, not mere men, but demigods, that is Ansis.

使用する際の注意点

• From the cognates in other Germanic (and even Indo-European) languages it is clear that the Ansis were originally the pagan gods of the Goths. By calling them demigods and originally great men, Jordanes was engaging in a common form of medieval euhemerism. There have not yet been found any medieval, or classic author who claim the supposed rivaling non-euhemerist view. The Icelandic lawspeaker, skáld and author Snorre Sturlusson keep the same view as the 600-years older Jordanes, and argues that merely people who have lost contact with a broader multi-facetted culture believe the Ansis, or Æsir to be supernatural beings beyond the human realm. On the other side it seems obvious that both æsir and vanir, as well as jotuns and elves exhibit the attribute of metempsychosis.
