The Acts 29 Network is a Christian organization dedicated to church planting. It derives its name from the Book of Acts in the New Testament, which has 28 chapters, making Acts 29 the "next chapter" in the history of the church. Acts 29, in its current incarnation, was initially led by Mark Driscoll, while the current President and Director is Scott Thomas, who is also the Global Church Pastor at Mars Hill Church in Seattle. Originally, Acts 29 was started under the leadership of Dr. David Nicholas at Spanish River Church in Boca Raton, Florida. The initial grouping of Acts 29 churches included Rick McKinley of Imago Dei Community, Portland, OR; Doug Pagitt of Solomon's Porch, Minneapolis, MN, and the aforementioned Mark Driscoll along with several other non-denominational and PCA affiliated church planters. A large portion of the startup finances for many of these original Acts 29 churches came from Spanish Rivers Church. The Acts 29 vision was born out of the leadership vision of Dr. David Nicholas and the creative convergence of these myriad planters and communities. As Acts 29 launched, a handful of churches withdrew from the network when a document explaining the Reformed soteriology commonly known as TULIP was offered as the primary Statement of Faith.
