Evaluation Criteria

A legacy of innovation.
A standard you can trust.

Our evaluation is led by a prestigious panel of industry luminaries—accomplished professionals whose proven success ensures the highest assessment standards. Through rigorous analysis of Concept, Value, and Impact, these esteemed judges provide thorough evaluation and valuable mentorship, sharing insights that help participants enhance their innovations.

Opportunity, Conception, Method, Development

In alignment with Edison’s work, the Edison Awards takes an interest in the overall method and development of the opportunity’s concept. Use this space to convey how the concept came to life! What factors, collaborations, iteration, prototyping contributed to the conception and development of your innovation as it progressed from genesis to market availability?

Need/desire, Differentiation, Cost, Advantage

This is your elevator pitch—concisely provide evidence for how your new product/service is unique and benefits consumers. Tell the story of how yournew solution is a gamechanger with distinct benefits over competitors, or how your new solution is THE first-of-its-kind solution to exceed market demand or create a new market. Since value was a primary motivation in Edison’s own innovation work, use this section to explain how your new product or service is different than what’s in the market today.

Sustainability, Social Responsibility, Potential

Edison devoutly believed that true innovation not only demonstrated commercial success but also impacted the world in meaningful ways. Describe the immediate impact your innovation has made on the environment or community served, and predict its long-term effect on society as a whole. Winning nominations articulate a vision, establish benefits beyond simply economic, and could be a catalyst for future innovations. How is your new product or service having an impact on the world at large?

The Edison Awards Steering Committee and a panel of industry Expert Reviewers review all nominations and develop a list of finalists within each category. Our Panel of Judges is composed of more than 3,000 senior business executives, academics, past Edison Award winners, marketing professionals, scientists, and engineers. This panel reviews the finalists and selects the Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners based on three criteria: Concept, Value, and Impact.

The judging process is confidential and impartial, with scores averaged across multiple evaluators to ensure fairness.

Finalists are typically announced in late January following the close of nominations. Finalists and other interested parties are invited to attend the annual Edison Awards event in April, which includes the popular Meet the Innovators Forum and the black-tie Gala where the gold, silver and bronze winners are announced.

Finalists and winners are contacted directly by our team prior to the public announcement. We also share results via press releases, our website, email newsletters, and social media channels.

Winners who register for the Awards Gala before the deadline (and who attend the event in person) receive a prestigious trophy honoring their achievement. All winners have the opportunity to license and showcase the official winner’s seal in their marketing and communications. Every winner is included in press releases, media campaigns, and social media features, and their accomplishments are celebrated both at the ceremony and on our website. Most importantly, winners gain long-term visibility as part of our community of innovators, ensuring their impact continues to be recognized long after the awards are announced.

Winners and finalists are encouraged to license the Edison Awards seal and share their achievement in press releases, on social media, and in marketing initiatives. A press kit is provided to all finalists. Additional promotional opportunities include attending the event to network and demo your product, and collaborating with the Edison Awards team on videos, social media posts, newsletter features, blog posts, and more.
