Dream
I had a dream last night. It was like a strange music video. It could probably work as a music video, if it was fleshed out a bit more.
So there's a guy, its raining. He's walking along and the music is playing. The lyrics made sense in my dream but I've sense forgotten them. They're saying something about what it's like to be black, kind of like your typical rap song. Glamorizing the better parts of the experience.
So he's walking along and he comes across this pool area, he has to get across. The bottom of the pool is misleading, it's difficult to see how deep any part of the pool is. His only way through is through the water. He tries to find the shallowest area, and heads for the left side. After he makes up his mind he takes off his shoes, pulls up his pants and slowly puts one foot in while hanging on to the side. About 2 feet into the water he touches the bottom and then continues to walk. "that wasn't so bad" he thinks. As he walks through the water the first verse of the song plays.
He comes across another pool exactly the same as the last one. This time he takes his shoes off and goes to a different spot on the right side. He eases his way in and touches bottom at about 4 feet deep. As he walks through, verse 2 plays.
He comes across a third pool exactly the same as the last one. He figures the pool can't be very deep. He figures he's in a hurry. He doesn't even bother to take his shoes off. He jumps in the middle of the pool. He falls straight down into about 30 feet of water. The instant he's underwater the third verse begins, and it reflects the way it truly is to be a black person in this country. Since he didn't take off his shoes he is sinking faster and can't swim back to the top. He eventually makes it to the side of the pool and manages to climb up the wall just in time before he drowns.
In the dream I pictured Wyclef Jean doing the song.
How is that, do you think?
