Is it a coincidence?
I have been putting off writing about the night I saw Harry Potter and the experience around it for a while, cause I wanted to make it something epic.
But I saw some news on it that kind of made me get started a little earlier. As for the movie...well, long story short, I think I'm going to have to stop reading AICN reviews before I see a movie. I'll get to that later in the post.
So on the news just now, I heard that Legendary SF Porn Pioneer Jim Mitchell has died.
Just the other day we were walking past the Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theater on our way from BART to the Van Ness theater.
Now they may be some of you out there going, "who cares?" Well, I will now re-post something from my old blog.
( My writing wasn't as good back then, if it's any better now...Collapse )
So we walk by there, and a day later the mother fucker that was still living dies. Coincidence?
I don't know.
We did make it to see Harry Potter, and it was interesting. However, I didn't like it as much as I liked, pretty much, every other Harry Potter movie. Don't get me wrong, it has some great wizard battles, all the actors are great...My only faults with the movie come with the editing. The speed which they plow through the book is inconsistent, and there was a lot of unnecessary shortening of shots. Simple things like not showing a character walk 5 feet. There's no need to cut that out. Let me at least hear the guy's footsteps as he walks from point a. to point b. He didn't frickin' teleport 5 feet away.
I think I was disappointed more by the fact that everything I'd read about the movie was so good. Everybody seems to be writing that this movie was really good. I don't buy it.
As I said before, don't get me wrong. It was good. But I'd still probably call it my third favorite.
This has happened before. Sure that movie wasn't really bad, but I think by reading AICN I get the sense that every movie is going to be awesome, and they really aren't. At least, not as awesome as I get led to believe.
All in all, I really liked the stuff they added to the movie. Filch screwing with the paintings. Harry's line as Umbridge gets hauled away. That whole Daily Profit thing. "Stay away from my godson." Yes. Go. Win. Just at the end of the movie I was left feeling like there should have been more.
I think I'll save the part of this post I intended to be Epic for later, when I actually feel up to fleshing it out (and when it isn't 3 in the morning).
Till then, mischief managed.
