New Year's Insanity! 30mm Scruby Naps

I just couldn't resist.

Almost 400 Infantry and 86 Cavalry painted [mostly not well and a bit battered] for less than the retail price. I do enjoy Battalion / Regiment focused games, where the units really have an identity and history that is clearly in play also. 

 This project appears to be the remnants of a significant Peninsula War collection. French, German Allies, Polish Lancers, and a few Brits. Since my N-scale Scruby Naps boutique project is mostly French, Austrians and Russians, why shouldn't this 30mm project be the Peninsula!? 

Looks like 6 French Battalions, 5 Westphalian Battalions and 2 Cav, v. 3 strong British Cav Regts and one British Battalion.  Need a lot more Brits!

Below, out of the box and onto the table.

French Chasseurs a Cheval, I'd say.

Foreign Regt Isemburg is the guess here.

My plan is to base them all, while straightening the battered fellows so they have good parade-ground posture.  They seem to fit nicely with 4 on a 2.5" wide base, which will then be 1.5" deep to protect their bayonets, etc.  Thus following one of my "rules of basing" that the ENTIRE figure must fit within the boundaries of the base - otherwise there's just too much damage, scratching, etc.

And this is what the units will look like.  

32 line figs on 8 2.5" wide bases, with the command stand on an oval in the center.  As they fought in "divisions" each of 1/4 of the unit, that's how they'll be based. There will be a few 24 and 16 fig units as well, on smaller bases. 

Many gamers and rules still mistakenly base units by the number of companies they had, which leads to incorrect formations on the table.  This scheme makes it easy to use the Napoleonic "Column of Divisions" as well as a half division for road marching, etc.  The command stand is not a fighting stand, just a marker for Leadership use in my "Zeal & Bayonets" rules.

Each division of 8 figures will take up about 5".  Two divisions wide is 10" plus 2" for the command stand, so each full-sized unit will be 12" frontage on the table when in a 3-rank line.

I'm excited about the figs, the project, and even making old-school terrain for it.  It will also double-down on my 30mm Scruby American Revolution armies, which I plan to add more French and cavalry to and go fight in Europe.  All the terrain can be re-used in either period, far as I'm concerned.

Figure Painting Challenge, p3: 01/15 - 02/15/2020

Painting fans, I regret that in a time of government - enforced painting possibilities, I have been wrapped up in mandatory Army education fun. As I return to a more normal routine, I hope to keep up with and finish off this competition!

Dancing Skeletons - 18mm "Joan of Arc"

"Time of Legends: Joan of Arc (Mythic Games) 100 Years War setting. This is both a board game and a rule set – they expanded the board game which comes with a range of scenarios to allow for open battle mode with restricted build lists. It includes both (many) historical units, but also some supernatural (skeletons, werewolves, angels,demons) for special games.  18 mm miniatures, hexagonal tiles for terrain."

"This year I've really been trying to stick to my plans and that means painting American War for Independence troops.  The good news here is I only have a very small amount of units left to paint.  This is one of them - the famed "Jersey Blues" or 1st New Jersey Regiment.  In an effort to bolster my forces for my upcoming Germantown game, I realized that I need a few more units of British and Continentals in 15mm to make it happen!"

"Also, continuing the momentum of my 10mm projects, I completed another 10mm SYW Prussian Regiment today (30 total figures). " 30 @ 1pt = 30 + 6pts for basing = 36 pts, 84 pts total.

On Feb 5th, he added a few more flying menaces to the 1/300 force. I recognize a couple as being previously done, but I think the other 11 are new.

"I finished two more units of 15mm Continental Army units for my AWI project for 115 points."

"I've also rebased some of my 28mm FIW miniatures for the upcoming release of the new version of Muskets & Tomahawks. I plan to have them all rebased by its release. That's 23 points for the 23 miniatures (the six natives and an officer aren't pictured)." Total = 138 pts

He then added a week or so later: "I've got more models finished! 25 Orc Boyz for my "Classichammer" Orcs & Goblins project. 

All based up, so [25 @ 5pts for]125 points, plus 25 bonus points = 150pts

I suggest  we continue the competition through April 15th in honor of "Many Happy Returns Day" and recognizing that everyone needs something to do during quarantine here at Plague Ground Zero. However, in all fairness, it should be a bonus competition since original date was March 15th and we have in fact passed it already by the calendar if not by posts. This will keep me safe from accusations of trying to get caught up and win by April 15th!  Not very likely the way most of you are working.

I am open for your suggestions.

Total so far = 217 pts [some may be halved if already started, we'll see].

 Love how the SMG guy needs a shave! There's are just super figures that look great! 9 x 28mm figs are 45 points; they were already started so get half points, so 22.5 points. 

NOTE: We get 20% bonus for basing/flocking them properly [how doesn’t matter – skirmish, groups, whatever]. So in this case that would be another 4.5 points for 27 points when done.
