Il présente les différents types de bijoux (colliers, bracelets, amulettes) et souligne leur importance dans les rites funéraires, où ils accompagnaient le défunt dans l'au-delà.

Nonetheless, considering their typologies’ diversity, and given that their provenance is usually unknown, this research theme has not been highly developed in Egyptology. W. M. Flinders Petrie was one of the first Egyptologists to study them in a major publication: he summarised the results of several excavations in some major necropolis, like Dendera and Hawara, and identified the amulets found over their mummies. His work, including his classification of amulets according to their purpose, is still the major reference for the study of Egyptian amulets in general. Currently, the application of radiological methods in mummies’ research has contributed to the “discovery” of amulets previously imperceptible.

Among all the artefacts exported from Egypt in Antiquity, amulets have played an important role. ... more Among all the artefacts exported from Egypt in Antiquity, amulets have played an important role. These small objects were imbued with magic properties, based on their iconography and hieroglyphic inscriptions, the combination of materials and their colour. Because of their apotropaic properties, amulets were used in daily life and in funerary rituals in Egypt. Furthermore, Egyptian amulets have been attested in other funerary contexts in the Mediterranean area. In the western part, the city of Cadiz was one of the most important Phoenician cities. A great number of Egyptian and Egyptianizing amulets, which are still unpublished, have been found in the local necropolis. Thus, to precisely say if the same funerary amulets were used in Egypt and in the Phoenicians cities is still a work in progress. Nevertheless, their great number suggests that Egyptian amulets were closely part of the Western identity.

Toutefois, leur étude et leur classification sont souvent difficiles, notamment au regard du grand nombre de typologies et de variantes existantes. En outre, les matériaux employés pour leur fabrication sont aussi d’une grande variété. Bien que certaines typologies d’amulettes aient souvent été fabriquées dans des matériaux semblables, tels que le nœud-tit en jaspe rouge, l’œil-oudjat en faïence bleue et la colonnette-ouadj en feldspath vert, d’autres méritent une attention toute particulière. Comme cela a été observé pour d’autres objets égyptiens, tant le matériau que la couleur de l’amulette étaient porteurs d’une symbolique précise. Il convient donc d’appliquer ce point de vue aux amulettes sur tissu, support spécifique jusqu’alors peu étudié dans une approche globale

Leur diversité typologique étant considérable, l'application de la méthode de CT-Scanning à l'étude des momies égyptiennes révèle des conclusions non seulement intéressantes pour le domaine de la Médecine ou l'Anthropologie, mais aussi de la magie et des rituels funéraires. À partir de la comparaison de quelques momies exemplaires, le présent article propose une vision d'ensemble des amulettes qui ont été véritablement utilisées dans le rituel de la momification, présentées chronologiquement.

Despite their small size, amulets were essential to accomplish the ritual of mummification and to... more Despite their small size, amulets were essential to accomplish the ritual of mummification and to guarantee the rebirth of the deceased in the Egyptian afterlife. For this purpose, they were placed directly between the bands that wrapped the body to extend their magical properties. The choice and position of a particular amulet was not the result of chance. However, researchers have often underestimated their meaning. This article aims to present the interest of a detailed study of these objects and the information they can provide on Egyptian funeral practices. By the analysis of recent studies in several mummies, mostly from the Late Period and the Graeco-Roman period, we would like to present the evolution of Egyptian funerary conceptions through some Egyptian amulets from the collection of the Louvre Museum.

O bjets courants associés à l'Égypte antique, les amulettes jouaient un rôle non négligeable dans... more O bjets courants associés à l'Égypte antique, les amulettes jouaient un rôle non négligeable dans la vie quotidienne et, surtout, dans les rituels funéraires des Anciens Égyptiens. Présentes dans la plupart des collections muséales mondiales, elles occupent aussi une place importante dans les collections privées et circulent sur le marché de l'art en tant qu'oeuvres. C'est que les amulettes égyptiennes attirent tout type de public grâce à la beauté que leur confèrent non seulement les matériaux dans lesquels elles étaient fabriquées, mais aussi leurs couleurs. Cette portée que l'on pourrait qualifier d'"esthétique" était également remarquable dans la culture égyptienne. En revanche, pour un Égyptien, la qualité des couleurs et les propriétés des matériaux des amulettes surpassaient leur simple beauté extérieure. D'abord, signalons que le choix du matériau dans lequel une amulette était fabriquée n' est jamais le fruit du hasard.

This research deals with the study of the Egyptian amulets imported by the Phoenicians to the wes... more This research deals with the study of the Egyptian amulets imported by the Phoenicians to the western Mediterranean, where they have been reused by the Romans, as symbol of prestige, in a funerary context. Indeed, the spread of Egyptian artefacts throughout the Mediterranean is a well-documented phenomenon. Egyptian artefacts were found in Cadiz, but also Malaga, Villaricos and Ibiza. In the former cases, the use of these artefacts have survived until the Roman period. Contrary to the traditional research studies, the introduction of Egyptian artefacts in the Roman Spain was not new. These objets were already in our territory when the Phoenician-Punic society was colonised by the Romans. In this way, these artefacts were reused rather than imported by the Roman society of Spain.

Este estudio se centra en el análisis de los amuletos egipcios y su influencia en el mundo medite... more Este estudio se centra en el análisis de los amuletos egipcios y su influencia en el mundo mediterráneo, particularmente en la necrópolis fenicio-púnica de Cádiz. Tras una revisión del estado actual de la investigación sobre los amuletos egipcios y su papel en los rituales funerarios, este trabajo explora las rutas comerciales y culturales. En Cádiz, los hallazgos arqueológicos han permitido identificar una amplia variedad de amuletos, cuya tipología e iconografía revelan tanto la influencia egipcia original como las adaptaciones locales y reinterpretaciones realizadas por la cultura fenicio-púnica.

Nuestra experiencia parte del TFM presentado en el Master de Investigación en conservación y restauración de la Universidad de la Sorbona. Nos centramos en las conocidas urnas de fayenza egipcia del Museo de Cádiz y en la búsqueda de paralelos a nivel mediterráneo. La colaboración con el Departamento de antigüedades egipcias del Museo del Louvre nos permitió encontrarlos y crear así un verdadero corpus y líneas de estudio.
La fayenza es un tipo de cerámica muy particular cuya exportación se extendió desde Egipto hacia todo el Mediterráneo, por lo que muchos museos disponen de piezas de este material. El contacto y la colaboración con conservadores fue fundamental para nuestra investigación.
El objetivo de esta comunicación es mostrar diferentes sistemas de conservación en museos europeos a través del estudio de unas piezas similares.
