Alan MacDonald
I am a historian and currently Associate Dean for Quality and Academic Standards within the School of Humanities at the University of Dundee. My research focus is on early modern Scotland, with a particular focus on the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. I have published on ecclesiastical, environmental and parliamentary history, with a recent focus on the impact of 1603 on the government of Scotland. Much of my recent research involves a return to environmental history, investigating weather patterns in early seventeenth century Scotland and combining research on agriculture and government through an investigation of teinds (tithes). I also maintain an interest in the elections of shire commissioners to the Scottish parliament (county members) in the seventeenth century.
