Sorry for not updating for a while. The only solution is if you guys contribute stuff; I have completely open posting to this community, so you really don't need to wait for me to make posts.
One of Denise's big aims for Dreamwidth is to use volunteer contributions as efficiently as possible. LJ has a really extraordinary volunteer culture in some ways, but in other ways the volunteer system here is hopelessly broken. This description of the volunteer philosophy sounds pretty promising, right:
We're strongly committed to making sure that we involve everyone's perspectives and concerns from moment one, and we're also really strongly committed to creating a community where everybody feels like they participate in building, shaping, and maintaining the service and the community as a healthy and vibrant online home.
Our ultimate desire is to create a community where you guys trust us to listen to what you're saying and make the right decisions for the service as a whole, and where we can all come together and pitch in to make something amazing. We don't want to be your Evil Overlords; we want to be the people you empower to be your pairs of hands. We're all in this together, and we want to make it easy for you to come and offer your skills and talents as much (or as little!) as you want.
OK, the site hasn't even launched yet, but I'm going to ask how things are going so far with putting this marvellous volunteer philosophy into practice.
It does seem like the Dreamwidth team are listening seriously to people's ideas expressed on the mailing list. Talking of expressing ideas and requests, foxfirefey has created an unofficial Dreamwidth Wiki, to act as a repository of wishlists, feature requests, and just for people who are excited about the project to get stuck in and create without waiting for word from the developers.
