Oblivion [May. 25th, 2012|07:56 pm]
dragonmaster_x
?????

This game got very good reviews... How did people tolerate the absolutely terrible font? Yellow text plastered over another shadow of yellow? WTF? And the font's not even that to begin with. There's so many in-game novels in Oblivion, again this nasty color scheme. There's no way to change it. The translators poured all their time and effort into a brilliant translation only to have it ruined by disgusting color scheme that could have easily been fixed.

$#&%' Oblivion. I turned on Umineko no Naku Koro ni right after and I cannot believe how beautiful and easy-to-read the text is.

So I'm selling Oblivion.

I really liked the story in the DS game, maybe they can remake that game someday.

Game Review Sites Unreliable For Visual Novels [Apr. 24th, 2012|08:07 pm]
dragonmaster_x
Visual Novels are a special breed of game. There are idiots who think Zelda: Ocarina of Time has the best story ever. So have one of them play a mediocre visual novel and they will think OMG THIS IS THE BEST STORY EVER!

That's why I'm finding reviews from people who spend their entire lives playing visual novels more accurate. They have something to compare against -- they know what the standard is.

OMG, Umineko is incredible! I've only just played 3 hours and can already tell it's gonna be one hell of an epic! Time Leap, Suzukaze no Melt, White Album, To Heart 2 all pale in comparison.

Dunamis 15 was really good too. I hope the extra content for PSP release gets updated to PS3 also as DLC or something.

Games that Leave a Lasting Impression for Years to Come [Mar. 23rd, 2012|02:28 pm]
dragonmaster_x
Pendulum

This video made me think about stories in games that have left a strong, lasting impression, staying with me for years, and maybe changed the way I think about certain things, as compared to games that are simply fun, but quickly forgotten.

Berwick Saga
Final Fantasy VI
FFT
Ico
Journey
Langrisser IV
Legacy of Kain: Defiance(free will)
Legend of Heroes(all of them, I haven't played the ones after Sora no Kiseki though, figured I might as well wait for updated Vita versions, or maybe iPhone versions 10 years down the line)
MGS series
Nier
Rhapsody
Shadow of the Colossus
Suikoden 1&2
To the Moon
Xenogears
---
Clannad
Stein's Gate

I see Blazblue is listed as a visual novel at vndb.org
I tried to enjoy Blazblue's story to see what the praise was all about, but it seems ridiculously, unnecessarily long-winded, and just totally screams 中二病 to me. Sure, it's deep FOR A FIGHTING GAME, but it cannot compare to true masterpiece visual novels. It must be everyone who only know of Street Fighter and Call of Duty that praise Blazblue's story.

Street Fighter X Tekken [Mar. 18th, 2012|09:57 pm]

There's a downloadable patch to access all 12 bonus characters. THEY WERE FINISHED AFTER ALL. Dirty Capcom.

And bullshit lies like XBOX360 can't handle 4 players when XBOX Mortal Kombat does it fine.

Konami's Marketing Department is Dead [Mar. 3rd, 2012|09:45 am]
dragonmaster_x
Birds of Steel(WW2 Ace Combat-esque air combat sim) coming out next week in Japan. Zero advertising.

Blades of Time also coming out next week. Looks good, a trailer was just released like 2 weeks ago. Even the Japanese were saying "wow, I didn't even know this game was being made. Haha, look at the official website. What a shitty website, it's like Konami wants the game to fail."

Silent Hill Downpour in two weeks... Where the hell is the advertising for this? Ask any random gamer for upcoming survival horror and they will say RE: Operation Raccoon City, because Konami is doing a shit job of advertising this game.

Huge difference from Squenix's FF Versus XIII, where 9999999999 years before the actual release date, they already tell us they're making it. Or even DQX. Did they announce they so early just to bait people into buying the Wii?

Sumioni is being sold by XSeed in the US for only $20?!

That's like how Rayman Origins is only being sold for 2500 yen in Japan!

Rayman Origins JP being sold for pocket change.

I wasn't really interested, but I'll take it for pocket change! No idea why they're selling it for so cheap though, it's an extremely rare case this one.

Konami is dead [Feb. 19th, 2012|06:28 am]

Japanese are thinking the same thing too! One of them makes a fascinating point. Castlevania HD was never released on Japanese PSN. Also, the iOS Castlevania puzzle game was never released on the Japanese iTunes store -- doing that is next to free, what the hell is wrong with Konami?

Suikoden Twitter [Feb. 13th, 2012|09:30 pm]

好評発売中 my ass. Konami's a load o' sh@t. I'm enjoying the game personally, but it annoys know me when a company makes up blatant lies in your face like that.

That's why I love David Jaffe, he would never ever pull nonsense like that out of his @ss. Though I think he did go too far with that Twisted Metal Valentine's Day blowjob comment. Maybe it didn't matter to him as he was quitting Eat Sleep Play anyway?

New Suikoden on PSP [Feb. 11th, 2012|09:47 pm]
dragonmaster_x
Liking it so far, but this is not Suikoden. Story, voice acting, characters, music, are all good, but the camera is shit, exploration is pretty much gone, no treasures to find in dungeons, so it's in a way even more linear than FFXIII, hell, they might as well have turned this into a full-fledged visual novel.

Very dirty of Konami not to tell this truth beforehand. Also very dirty of them to try "phishing" customers with 9 traditional Suikoden PSP Themes and the deluxe LE set with ol' Suikoden stuff, when this game really has nothing to do with Suikoden.

There's only 18 playable characters in battle.

Hudson is now a subsidiary of Konami. That train game series Momotarou Densetsu creator quit recently.

Konami also killed Vandal Hearts.

ASY did a respectable job with Hardcore: Uprising, dunno if Konami's gonna much with it from here on though.

Many fans disappointed with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. The 2D HD version has a rather frequent bug during end of a mission where the page flipping never ends(freeze) that was never patched -- meaning Konami's just ignoring the problem.

Neverdead bombed.

Frontier Gate was meh, alright I guess. They've gotter work harder if they wanna beat Squenix's Lord of Apocalypse and Capcom's MH though.

Silent Hill Downpour looking good so far, but we'll find out soon.

If Hideo Kojima's staff left and formed their own company, Konami's true breadwinner LovePlus would be all they have left. Sure they've accumulated many IP over the years, but whether they can make good use of them is another thing.
