In this article, a novel Compact Circularly Polarized Antenna with a notched circular Electromagn... more In this article, a novel Compact Circularly Polarized Antenna with a notched circular Electromagnetic Band Gap (NCEBG) structure is put forward. This proposed structure comprises of a truncated rectangular patch antenna having its ground plane defected by slots etched on it to achieve compactness and wide impedance bandwidth. Electromagnetic Band Gap structures have the attractive feature of in-phase reflection and stopband creation for surface waves, enabling the surface waves to be suppressed; this, in turn, leads to enhanced performance of the antenna when loaded with such structures. For enhancing the functioning of the antenna with regard to its impedance bandwidth, axial ratio bandwidth and gain, seven NCEBG's are etched on the substrate which surrounds the truncated patch. Additionally, the antenna proposed in this research exhibits compactness with a low profile of 0.473 λo x 0.473 λo x 0.039 λo (λo at center frequency of 7.46GHz represents free space wavelength). The measured outcomes of the prototype-fabricated antenna match well with the results of the simulation, showing 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 13.66% and an impedance bandwidth of 73.29% having a peak gain of 7.32dBi in the operating band. The improved functioning of the proposed antenna marks it as a favorable applicant for wireless communication techniques and thus finding its application in various ways.

In TE/TM mode, the absorbance is greater than 99% at the intended frequency bands (i.e., 5.76, 8.6, 12.68, 14.38, 17.05, 17.94, 19.20, 20.88, 22.62, and 23.62GHz), and its reflectivity is almost zero. Results indicated that the metasurface is found to extremely independent on the angles of polarization of the incident wave and the absorber is almost insensitive to the incident angle (0° – 90°) for TE/TM modes. The unit cell of metasurface is having negative permittivity, near zero permeability and negative refractive index at all intended bands which confirm exotic properties of the metasurface. The designed circularly polarized antenna having overall volume of 20× 20 × 1.6 mm 3 actively works at the impedance bandwidth of 9000 MHz (4.0-12.9 GHz) having 105%(with 8900 MHz taken as center frequency). The 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth is obtained as 5500 MHz (5.4-10.9 GHz) depicting 67.5% (with 8150 MHz taken as the center frequency). Measured results of impedance bandwidth, axial ratio, gain and VSWR agrees to the simulation results.

Simulation is processed to attain the biocompatibility and antenna characteristics such as return loss, radiation pattern, gain, etc. Graphical-based simulated results of antenna parameters are obtained using the High-Frequency Simulation Software that covers the "Industrial Scientific and Medical" band range.

The “Industrial Scientific and Medical” bands are covered by this proposed wideband antenna. Simulation of the antenna parameters such as return loss, impedance matching, voltage standing wave ratio, radiation pattern, and gain using commercially available High-Frequency Simulation Software.
In this article, a single feed antenna design which consists of a parasitic patch slot with an I-... more In this article, a single feed antenna design which consists of a parasitic patch slot with an I-tree shaped fractal defected ground structure for circularly polarized radiation is presented. In the proposed design, circular polarization characteristics are achieved by deploying fractal slotted defected ground structures. The antenna design with a third iterative I-tree shaped fractal slot on an Fr4 substrate is fabricated and tested for verifying the simulated results. The circular polarization mechanism is performed using parametric studies. The measured and simulated results confirmed that the proposed structure can adequately generate an impedance bandwidth of 10.6% with 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth of 4.89%, with the measured peak gain of the proposed antenna being 5.16 dBic. The proposed article is suitable for C-band and CA-band applications.

The proposed structure comprises a 2 × 2 slot-loaded rectangular patch MS array that can be perceived as a polarization-dependent EBG MS superstrate. Furthermore, to achieve circular polarization, the proposed antenna has an inclined coupling slot onto the ground with a conventional coplanar waveguide feed line. The proposed antenna has a compact structure with a low profile of 0.037λ0 (λ0 stands for the free-space wavelength at 3.48 GHz) and a ground size of 30 × 30 mm2. The measured results show that the −10 dB impedance bandwidth for the proposed antenna is 34.6% and the 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth is 6.8% with a peak gain of 3.91 dBi in the desired operating band. Good agreement between the simulated and the measured results verifies the performance of the proposed antenna.

This paper presents a compact microstrip antenna using FR-4 substrate for dual band circularly po... more This paper presents a compact microstrip antenna using FR-4 substrate for dual band circularly polarized operation using a modified square ring slot in the ground plane with microstrip line feed. Simulation of the impedance characteristic and radiation characteristic for the proposed antenna is carried out using commercially available HFSS software. The simulated data validate measured results and shows good agreement. Proposed antenna shows an impedance bandwidth (return loss >10 dB) of 50.88% at 5.9 GHz of center frequency and 29.92% at 12.8 GHz of center frequency for lower and upper band, respectively. The 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth for lower and upper band is 26.4 and 3.0%, respectively and measured peak gain for the lower and upper band is found as 3.2 and 3.4 dBic, respectively. The proposed antenna can be suitable for wireless communication in C and Ku bands.

The proposed antenna having a microstrip-fed rectangular patch with T-shaped notch for triple-band operation and a modified wide square slot on ground plane for CP operation. The measured 10 dB reflection bandwidths are 1.24% (≈340 MHz from 2.56 to 2.9 GHz), 9.63% (≈430 MHz from 4.25 to 4.68 GHz), and 5.34% (≈490 MHz from 8.93 to 9.42 GHz). The generated 3 dB axial ratio bandwidths of the proposed antenna are 7.54, 8.98, and 1.65% at operating frequencies around 2.65, 4.45, and 9.09 GHz, respectively. The measured peak gains within the 3 dB axial ratio bands are 3.03, 3.5, and 5.64 dBi. The simulated and measured results for the return loss, axial ratio, and antenna gain show a good agreement, which validate the antenna design.

The designed antenna consists of a circular patch with two rectangular slots, which are parallel to CPW feed line, excites two resonance modes for wideband performance. To achieve CP operation, an inclined coupling slot loaded feed line on the ground is used. Furthermore, the proposed antenna is an enhanced version of earlier wideband CP antennas having a compact structure with a low-profile of 0.023λo (λo stands for the free space wavelength at 4.46 GHz) and ground size of 30 mm × 30 mm. It operates over the impedance bandwidth of 88.9% (relative to the center frequency of 4.5 GHz) and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth found for this band is 2.7% (relative to the center frequency of 4.46 GHz). To verify the performance of the designed antenna, the experimental results match well with the simulated results.

A triple-frequency operated concentric annular ring microstrip antenna which is single fed is pre... more A triple-frequency operated concentric annular ring microstrip antenna which is single fed is presented. The proposed antenna with three concentric annular rings and two symmetrical notches on its outer ring and having a cross slot in its ground surface shows triple band at resonance frequency 1.22760, 1.57542, and 2.18 GHz, respectively. At the first two bands (GPS L2 and GPS L1), circular polarization characteristic is observed and the third band observes linear polarization finding its application in Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS). The complete dimension of the antenna designed and fabricated is only 51.6 × 51.6 × 1.6 mm3. Experimental results depict the proposed antenna gain of 3.31, 3.55, and 3.50 dBi in three bands, respectively, and closely matches with the theoretical results.

The proposed antenna is having a low profile of 0.065 λ o (λ o is the free-space wavelength at center frequency of 6.16 GHz) with ground size selection of 30 × 30 mm. The prototype antenna achieves a measured −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 37% (5.02–7.30 GHz) and measured 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 5.9% (5.24–5.56 GHz). Furthermore, the antenna yields a good peak gain of 6.6 dBic in the CP bandwidth which makes it a promising candidate for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) applications. Experimental results obtained from the fabricated prototype closely matched with the simulated results.

The generated 3 dB axial ratio bandwidths of the proposed antenna are 7.54, 8.98, and 1.65% at operating frequencies around 2.65, 4.45, and 9.09 GHz, respectively. The measured peak gains within the 3 dB axial ratio bands are 3.03, 3.5, and 5.64 dBi. The simulated and measured results for the return loss, axial ratio, and antenna gain show a good agreement, which validate the antenna design.

The designed antenna consists of a circular patch with two rectangular slots, which are parallel to CPW feed line, excites two resonance modes for wideband performance. To achieve CP operation, an inclined coupling slot loaded feed line on the ground is used. Furthermore, the proposed antenna is an enhanced version of earlier wideband CP antennas having a compact structure with a low-profile of 0.023λo (λo stands for the free space wavelength at 4.46 GHz) and ground size of 30 mm × 30 mm. It operates over the impedance bandwidth of 88.9% (relative to the center frequency of 4.5 GHz) and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth found for this band is 2.7% (relative to the center frequency of 4.46 GHz). To verify the performance of the designed antenna, the experimental results match well with the simulated results.

The proposed antenna with three concentric annular rings and two symmetrical notches on its outer ring and having a cross slot in its ground surface shows triple band at resonance frequency 1.22760, 1.57542, and 2.18 GHz, respectively. At the first two bands (GPS L2 and GPS L1), circular polarization characteristic is observed and the third band observes linear polarization finding its application in Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS). The complete dimension of the antenna designed and fabricated is only 51.6 × 51.6 × 1.6 mm3. Experimental results depict the proposed antenna gain of 3.31, 3.55, and 3.50 dBi in three bands, respectively, and closely matches with the theoretical results.
A 3 × 3 slotted circular Electromagnetic Band gap based Metasurface (SCEBG-MS) has been presented... more A 3 × 3 slotted circular Electromagnetic Band gap based Metasurface (SCEBG-MS) has been presented in this article, which enhances the performance of a circularly polarized (CP) patch antenna by improving its impedance bandwidth, axial ratio bandwidth and gain. The proposed antenna is having a low profile of 0.065 λ o (λ o is the free-space wavelength at center frequency of 6.16 GHz) with ground size selection of 30 × 30 mm. The prototype antenna achieves a measured −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 37% (5.02–7.30 GHz) and measured 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 5.9% (5.24–5.56 GHz). Furthermore, the antenna yields a good peak gain of 6.6 dBic in the CP bandwidth which makes it a promising candidate for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) applications. Experimental results obtained from the fabricated prototype closely matched with the simulated results.
