Reid walked into his apartment with mail between his teeth and eight plastic grocery bags in his hands. He kicked the door closed with his foot and saw Luke, lying back in the recliner with nothing on but a pair of worn jeans and Reid's stethoscope around his neck.
"Don't bother getting up," Reid huffed as he went into the kitchen and dropped the bags onto the counter.
"Okay; I won't..." Luke teased, smiling as he pressed the bell of the stethoscope to his chest.
"That's not a toy you know," Reid scolded, as he set about putting the groceries away. In reality, Reid couldn't believe how freaking hot he found Luke with no shirt on and the instrument around his neck.
"This thing is cool. I can't believe they pay you the big bucks to play with stuff like this. Hey, c'mere..."
Reid ignored him and continued emptying bags.
"Reid, take off your shirt and come here; I wanna listen to your heart."
"No; look, I've gotta get some work done after this. That article is due tomorrow morning, and I'm not even half way finished."
"Whatever. I'll just sit over here and play by myself."
Reid shook his head at his half-dressed blonde boyfriend reclining deliciously in the corner of his living room, acting like he owned the place, and put the remainder of the bags away in the pantry. Then he grabbed a bag of pretzels and a Coke and sat down at the dining room table with his laptop to work.
"All work and no play," Luke taunted, as he ran the stethoscope over his bare chest, "makes Reid a dull boy."
Without taking his eyes off the computer screen, Reid replied, "Not all of us are trust fund brats. Some of us need to actually work for a living, Mr. Snyder. Now, please, if you could refrain from talking to me, maybe I can get this wrapped up so we can go to that concert at the park tonight that you've been bugging me about."
Luke sighed, "Fine...," and he closed his eyes.
Twenty minutes later, bored with listening to the clacking of the laptop keyboard, Luke decided he couldn't take not talking anymore and moved the bell of the stethscope back over his heart. "Hey, doc...Dr. Oliver..."
"Still working..."
"Dr. Oliver?...Dr. O...hey, Dr. Ohhhhhh...," Luke moaned as he slid the stethoscope down over his stomach and let it rest just above the button of his jeans. He laughed softly and arched his back in the recliner.
Reid refused to look at him, but Luke could see the corners of his mouth turning up in a faint smile.
"Hey, McHottie...what I've got going on over here is much more interesting and medically relevant than whatever is on that laptop. You need to come here and check this out. I think something's wrong. I have some swelling."
Reid rolled his eyes, finally giving in, and looked at Luke who now had the bell of the stethoscope pressed against the front of his jeans. "Dr. Love," Luke smiled, eyes locked on Reid's, "I think you need to get your sexy butt over here and check my vitals."
Reid looked at the computer screen, then back at Luke with his bare chest and impossibly red lips and flirty brown eyes. "Fuck...," he sighed as he closed his laptop.
Luke pumped his fist once into the air, victorious.
"You suck," Reid said, as he kicked off his shoes and pulled his teeshirt over his head. Luke licked his lips and raised his eyebrows.
"You can't resist me calling you McHottie, I know it..." Luke put the sethoscope up against his own neck, at the pulse point. "...and you know it."
"That's DOCTOR McHottie to you." Reid walked toward Luke, pulling his lab coat off the back of the a dining room chair as he passed it. He slipped it on as he reached Luke. He put a hand on each arm of the recliner and pulled himself up and over the chair and straddled Luke.
"You're pretty limber for an old guy," Luke teased.
Reid settled onto Luke's lap, pulled the bell of the stethoscope off of Luke's neck and put it on his own bare chest, inside his lab coat. With his other hand, he pulled Luke's hand up to hold the warmed metal against him.
"Your heart beats slower than mine."
"That's because this old guy has a fine tuned and efficient body. I have a low resting heart rate." Reid ran his hand down from Luke's neck to his waistband and pulled gently on the hair just below his belly button.
"Lean back."
Luke pressed the back of his head into the recliner's head rest, teasingly bucked his hips up a bit, and pulled the stethoscope off of Reid's chest. Reid took the instrument out of his hand and placed it on Luke's side. "Deep breaths, please, Mr. Snyder."
"Yes, doctor." Luke breathed in and out deeply as Reid moved the stethoscope around his chest and listened intently, making "mmmm-hmmmm" sounds. "What do you think is wrong with me?"
Reid smiled. "Where do I begin?" He took a pen light out of his lab coat pocket. "Say, 'aaaaah.'"
Luke chuckled and stuck out his tongue, and Reid shined the light in his mouth. "Uh-huh; interesting." He then held open each of Luke's eyes, one by one, and gently shined the light into them.
"Equal and reactive?" Luke asked, as he sat up and pushed the white coat off of Reid's shoulders, featuered his hands down his sides, and toyed with the button of Reid's jeans with his thumb.
Reid didn't answer and instead pushed Luke back down and put the stethoscope to his chest again. Luke put his hands behind his head, and they looked into each other's eyes for a long time, as Reid listened to the steady thudding of Luke's heart.
"I love you." The words were out of Reid's mouth before he even knew they were there. Christ, they had only been together for a month, but if Reid was honest with himself, he knew that he had never been so sure of something, so sure of someone, in his life.. Reid looked to the side and then back to Luke's eyes, which had never left him. He nodded, shrugged his head a bit and said it again. "Yeah, okay. I fucking love you."
"I know," Luke smiled. He sat up, put his palm to the side of Reid's neck and kissed his jaw. "I love you too."
"I know," Reid echoed. And he did.
