Version Info

Here is the Installation & Setup process for the Version Info WordPress plugin. Follow these steps to get up and running in under a minute.

Installation & Setup

Version Info is designed to work out of the box with sensible defaults. Once installed, you'll immediately see your site's technical environment data in the admin footer.

Requirements

Before installing, ensure your site meets the following minimum requirements:

  • PHP: 8.1 or higher
  • WordPress: 5.5 or higher
  • MySQL: 5.6 or higher (MariaDB supported)

Version Info is tested up to WordPress 6.9 and follows all wordpress.org plugin coding standards.

Installing from WordPress.org

  1. In your WordPress admin, navigate to Plugins > Add New.
  2. Search for "Version Info" in the search bar.
  3. Click Install Now next to the Version Info plugin by Gaucho Plugins.
  4. Click Activate once the installation completes.

Manual Installation

  1. Download the plugin ZIP file from wordpress.org/plugins/version-info or from versioninfoplugin.com.
  2. In your WordPress admin, navigate to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
  3. Choose the downloaded ZIP file and click Install Now.
  4. Click Activate once the installation completes.

Configuring Your Display Preferences

After activation, navigate to Settings > Version Info to configure where version data appears.

By default, Version Info displays your technical stack in the admin footer at the bottom of every WP-Admin page. You can also enable two additional display locations:

Setting Default Description
Show in Admin Footer On Displays WP, PHP, MySQL, and Web Server versions in the admin footer
Show in Admin Bar Off Adds version info nodes to the top admin bar
Show Dashboard Widget Off Adds a "Version Info" widget to the main Dashboard

That's it! The free version requires zero configuration beyond choosing your preferred display locations. Version data appears instantly after activation.

Upgrading to PRO or Agency

To unlock advanced features like real-time resource monitoring, environment indicators, or white-labeling:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Version Info in your WordPress admin.
  2. Click the Upgrade link in the Freemius menu or visit the in-dashboard pricing page.
  3. Complete your purchase and activate your license key.
  4. PRO and Agency features will unlock automatically once the license is active.

PRO features are visible in the free version as grayed-out previews so you can see what's available before upgrading. Each grayed-out feature includes a direct link to the upgrade page.
