DJI RTK Troubleshooting

This guide addresses the most common RTK issues with DJI drones: Mavic 3 Enterprise, Matrice 4 Enterprise, Matrice 350 RTK, Phantom 4 RTK, Inspire 3, and Agras series. If your DJI drone shows "Converging" but never reaches "FIX", start here.

"Converging" — RTK Not Reaching FIX

DJI drones are strict about RTK status. They require a stable FIX before enabling RTK-assisted flight. "Converging" means the drone is receiving corrections but hasn't locked to centimeter accuracy yet.

Decision Tree: What To Do

RTK shows "Converging" for more than 2 minutes

Distance Matters

Distance to the nearest base station is the single biggest factor for DJI RTK success. Check the RTKdata Coverage Map before flying — if you're within the colored zones, RTK FIX is achievable.

If you are far from the nearest station and stuck on "Converging" — distance is likely the issue, not your settings.

Pre-Flight RTK Checklist

Follow this exact sequence every time:

1. Power on the drone outdoors (not indoors, not in a vehicle)

2. Wait for GNSS satellite lock — DJI Pilot 2 shows satellite count (need 10+ for best results)

3. Verify internet connection on the controller (Wi-Fi, hotspot, or 4G dongle)

4. Enable Network RTK in DJI Pilot 2

5. Wait for RTK FIX — keep the drone stationary on the ground

6. Do NOT move the drone during convergence — DJI needs a stable initialization

7. Once FIX is achieved, you can take off

Battery Swap Procedure

Swapping the battery resets the RTK module. The drone must re-converge from scratch.

After every battery swap:

1. Power on the drone (keep it on the ground)

2. Wait for satellite lock (check satellite count in DJI Pilot 2)

3. Re-enable Network RTK if it doesn't auto-reconnect

4. Wait for FIX before takeoff — this may take 30–90 seconds

5. Do NOT rush — starting a mission before FIX will result in poor accuracy

Common DJI Error Messages

"No RTK Data Available"

Causes:

• Selected "D-RTK 2 Mobile Station" instead of "Custom Network RTK"

• On Agras drones: D-RTK 2 search is enabled and conflicts with network RTK

• Drone does not have a GNSS fix yet (needs satellites first, then RTK)

Fix:

1. Go to RTK settings in DJI Pilot 2

2. Select Custom Network RTK (not D-RTK 2)

3. On Agras: disable "D-RTK 2 Search" toggle

4. Ensure the drone has satellite lock before enabling RTK

"Fail to Enable Network RTK"

1. Check controller internet connection

2. Verify NTRIP settings: Host, Port 2101, Mountpoint AUTO

3. Toggle RTK off → wait 5 seconds → toggle on again

4. If persistent: restart DJI Pilot 2 app completely

"RTK Signal Weak"

This usually means FLOAT status with poor convergence:

• Check distance to nearest base station

• Improve sky view (avoid buildings, trees, metal structures near takeoff)

• Ensure stable internet (latency matters for RTK)

Map Pilot Pro vs. DJI Pilot 2

If you use Map Pilot Pro (by Maps Made Easy) instead of DJI Pilot 2:

• Map Pilot Pro has its own NTRIP settings — it does NOT inherit RTK settings from DJI Pilot 2

• Use port 2101 (NOT port 2103 which some versions default to)

• You must configure Host, Port, Mountpoint, and Credentials separately in Map Pilot Pro

• After configuring, verify RTK status within Map Pilot Pro before starting a mission

"Allow Takeoff in Float" Setting

DJI Pilot 2 has an option to allow takeoff even when RTK is in FLOAT (not FIX):

• Where: RTK Settings > Allow Non-Fixed RTK Takeoff

• When to use: When you're in a 30-50 km zone and FIX is intermittent

• Accuracy in Float: Typically 10-30 cm (enough for photogrammetry, not for survey-grade GCPs)

• Warning: Your flight data will be tagged as FLOAT, which may affect processing in DJI Terra or Pix4D

Internet Connection Tips for DJI

DJI drones need a stable internet connection on the controller (not the drone itself):

Method	Reliability	Notes
Phone hotspot (4G/5G)	Good	Most common setup
USB 4G dongle on controller	Very good	Recommended for field work
Controller built-in 4G (RC Plus)	Excellent	Best option if available
Wi-Fi from nearby building	Variable	Signal may drop in flight

Tips:

• Keep the hotspot device close to the controller

• Disable VPN — it adds latency that degrades RTK

• If connection drops mid-flight, RTK will switch to FLOAT automatically (flight continues safely)
