VERY IMPORTANT PSA about Same Sex DIVORCE in Canada
It's not about same-sex marriage. It's about NON-RESIDENT DIVORCES.
A same sex couple who are British and American, respectively, and were turned away by their own countries when they petitioned for divorce, as they do not recognize them as married in the first place. So, the couple came back to Canada to petition our Family courts to allow them to divorce here. Currently, Canada's divorce laws don't allow people who haven't lived in Canada for at least a year to end their marriage.
This post brought to you by the inflammatory, viral (OF COURSE) and ridiculous blog stating "Canadian Government Dissolves thousands of Same Sex Marriages". idek what the fuck, but that is major failboat. (DO NOT ALLOW THIS IDIOT TO CONTINUE: http://unicornbooty.com/blog/2012/01/12/canadian-govt-dissolves-thousands-of-same-sex-marriages-including-dan-savages/)
Information, people; use it before you 'lose it'. If you were one of 15,000 same sex couples who took the opportunity given by Canada to marry the one you love regardless of sex, your marriage is still valid. Please keep calm.
However, if you've found that the one you love is not the one for you, as it is wont to happen, then there may be an issue. Evidently *your* country may not allow you to divorce because they don't consider you legally hitched.
So now it's come to us, and we have to stand up and say, "Canada married the two of you, and we'll have to accept the petition to divorce you. So be it."
Go, Canada!
