HELP DJ POLL

OK, here's the sitch:

On Saturday, April 17, a mere 20 minute drive from me, Joe Flanigan and David Hewlett (Lt. Col. John Sheppard & Dr. Rodney McKay, of Stargate: Atlantis, respectively) will be signing autographs and taking fan photos with folks at the 2010 Vancouver Stargate Convention. For the first time ever, they will be allowing a 'sandwich' photo - you get to be in the middle of the two of them.

There are tickets available to this event (though I suspect that window is closing fast), and I can afford them. My hesitance comes only from the fact that I've never attended a convention or gone anywhere to purposefully meet a celebrity that I worship. I've always felt that this is a line I do not want to cross - real life and fantasy, never the twain shall meet.

Also, there are lines of 'cool' I won't cross. How is this different from geeking out at a Harry Potter convention? HP Cons are about the fen. Sci Fi cons are about the stars. Very different vibe and situation. So, a POLL:

Poll #1548863 Stargate Atlantis: Geekery

Attend the convention, get the damned picture?

Yes! Hello, hotties! Close enough to smell them!
18(43.9%)
No! OMG LOSER - the actors think that, too, even as they count up the $$ for every fake smile they give. :(
0(0.0%)
Maybe - can you wear a disguise? One that makes you look 40 lbs lighter? :/
0(0.0%)
What are you afraid of? Geek is the new chic.
17(41.5%)
Celebrity, schmelebrity, all men are my natural prey, I fear them not.
6(14.6%)

Thank you! &hearts

On 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the Movie (tm)'

Hai!

Home now. Exhausted. Someone gave me a plague at Azkatraz, and I will find you, and make you pay. *nods*

That being said, I intend a massive post of doom regarding the con and things, right now I have to impart my current thoughts on the movie.

I've only seen it once (so far), reddwarfer and I were invited along with the Snapecasters (who are awesome) to go watch it at the Sundance Kabuki Theatre on Thursday eve, before everyone else went to the 'late movie is late' at the mall. :) We got the better deal, let me tell you, eating our awesome turkey sandwich and home chips with a cold beer in comfortable kick back seats with tables at this rockin' joint.

However, upon seeing the movie and later discussing it at length with xylodemon, I have been able to get down into very few words my feelings on it, which were troubled. Not to say the movie wasn't enjoyable, it was, but there was something not...quite...right.

In words immortalized by xylodemon and then further secured in history in a picture by the most awesome scarah2, my thoughts on the movie can be summed up by thus:

(*Spoilers for the movie*. This phrase in itself makes my point, and the subtle irony of it should not be lost on my flist who by now should have read the HBP book at least once)

Djin7: I just kept looking for the canon. Where was it? Xylodemon: INORITE? I mean, I was just sitting there, and then suddenly...Collapse )

'nuff said.

I intend to see the movie again, though I will try very hard this time to not look for things I want to see such as canon, and instead see things as [the moviemakers] want me to see. Then I will valiantly attempt to try not to spend the next year postulating on how the hell they are going to start the next movie. *tilts head, squints*
