Like the older movements, this newer, more personalist movement seeks to bridge the gap between Orthodox thought and the contemporary world. Where sophiology and neo-Palamism attempted to speak to the theology and culture of western modernity, Zizioulas addresses the more post-modernist themes of identity and otherness.

Educationalists are uniquely placed to explore new understandings and demonstrate new practices of leadership. The aim of this paper is to explore the possibility of educating future leaders through the intentional exercise of personal character strengths, in the hope that this may contribute to new understandings and practices of leadership.

It argues that ecumenical dialogues have in the past focused on doctrinal issues at the expense of cultural differences, which may be just as significant in the relationships, including understandings and misunderstandings, between churches. It proposes that expertise on intercultural communication be also part of ecumenical dialogue. This argument shall be developed in several stages: first, a discussion of belief statements as cultural artefacts; second, a discussion of a recent study of the dynamics of intercultural communication, a study that draws on Bakhtin’s concept of dialogue; and finally the proposal for the application to ecumenical dialogue of the study’s methodological approach to intercultural communication. The conditions of the competition included that the sermon(s) had to address the theme of faith and work as well as the set lectionary readings for each particular Sunday, and be preached to a congregation during Lent 2017. I am very grateful to the competition organisers for their response. Here have uploaded all five in the series.
