Fedora 40 LXQt: Firefox Sync doesn't work

TL;DR: I can’t enable Firefox Sync in Firefox. It shows me an “Account disconnected” error immediately after logging in. Tried clearing a profile, installing Librewolf, different versions of Mozilla using Appimages and the problem persists. Of course, I removed ~.mozilla folder every time I tried something new. After all of that, I’ve moved to Brave and synced with Brave on another machine. Sync chain disappears after a reboot. What to do?

Hello everybody! Last week, I installed Fedora 40 LXQt using Fedora Everything (netinst) iso on my secondary laptop - Acer Aspire E3-112.

At first, everything seemed to be fine. There aren’t many programs by default, and the Flatpak is not included too. So, I decided to install everything using DNF and AppImages, 'cause Flatpak takes too much space on my hard disk and significantly slows down the OS. But this is another story.

What I did is install RPM Fusion and codecs using the official guides:

https://rpmfusion.org/Configuration

https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/Multimedia

Commands I typed
sudo dnf install https://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm https://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm
sudo dnf config-manager --enable fedora-cisco-openh264
sudo dnf update @multimedia --setopt="install_weak_deps=False" --exclude=PackageKit-gstreamer-plugin

Next, I installed the apps I use, which are available in Fedora 40 + RPM Fusion repos:

sudo dnf install inxi bleachbit blueman mc vim w3m featherpad htop putty setserial screen nmap cifs-utils libsmbclient gvfs-smb qlipper doublecmd-qt meld gtkhash vim-gtk3 lm_sensors cpu-x synapse ffmpeg simplescreenrecorder filezilla remmina audacity pinta ark kdenlive gimp torbrowser-launcher brasero shntool cuetools

Then, installed Firefox:

Complete!

Opened it and tried to sign in.

Entire step-by-step process with screenshots

I’ve tried to sign in with every method I could imagine: creating new profile, performing Firefox refresh, running in safe mode from terminal (gave me nothing useful except some usual GTK layout rendering warnings), downloading different versions with AppImages, trying LibreWolf… And of course the behavior is the same everywhere.

I was running out of options. As I said, I installed Fedora LXQt the same way in a VM on my main notebook. And guess what, it works even without RPM Fusion! I have no idea what’s happening… So, I decided to quit using Firefox and downloaded Brave. Set up Sync Chain and connected with my primary machine. It was syncing until a reboot, when the chain just disconnected like I’ve never used it before…

Please tell me what logs to send and how to get them. Thanks in advance.

that image is not firefox it is brave so if you try to sync firefox you need to have firefox on all devices and log in with your firefox account

if you want to use brave sync there is no account you create sync code and then install brave on all your devices and use that code to enable sync

there is no cros sync on difrent browsers

Thanks for repling. Yeah, I know that. I don’t try to sync between 2 different browsers. I want to enable Firefox Sync in Firefox, which gives me a strange error. Look inside “Entire step-by-step process with screenshots” spoiler first.

you running containerized apps? you have blocked all cookies?

i am not familiar on LXQT but does it have any secret.service manager like KDE has Kwallet where it stores this kind of info encrypted to keep signings

I use Firefox from the default Fedora repos. I chose a usual LXQt spin without containerizing stuff.

In Firefox, the settings are left default, which should not affect the login operation. Didn’t touch anything in Brave too. It’s set by default to block third-party cookies, but doesn’t seem like it’s clearing something on exit:

I remember I set up KDE wallet with an empty password. It asked me to do that when I opened Brave for the first time.

Found something unusual:

I have no clue why it is enabled by default… Will try to disable each option now.

Oh my God, you were right!!!

Thanks a lot, you’ve pointed me to the right direction!

To all who will stumble upon this issue in the future:

  1. Sign in
  2. Get an Account disconnected error
  3. Close Fireofx
  4. Open it again
  5. Go to about:config
  6. Set each privacy.clearOnShutdown and services.sync.prefs.sync.privacy.clearOnShutdown option to false using a 2-arrow button near the scrollbar
  7. Close Firefox
  8. Open it again
  9. Click on your account emblem with a yellow warning sign
  10. Click on Account disconnected message
  11. Choose sign in on the settings page
  12. Enter your password once again
  13. And that’s all! You’re in!

Hope that helps :slightly_smiling_face:

Glad to get it sorted sometimes it is just simple things that makes the life miserable
