About the PSF category

This category is for the discussions relating to the Python Software Foundation.

The Python Software Foundation (PSF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that holds the intellectual property rights behind the Python programming language. We manage the open source licensing for Python version 2.1 and later and own and protect the trademarks associated with Python. We also run the North American PyCon conference annually, support other Python conferences around the world, and fund Python related development with our grants program and by funding special projects.

This is a meta-category. It may be used by the Python Software Foundation staff to:

  • Post announcements about the PSF
  • Share news from the PSF
  • Link to resources the PSF provides

I find this category definition wording confusing: on the hand you say the category is for discussions related to the PSF. Yet, later it says “It may be used by the Python Software Foundation staff for …”.

Could you clarify if the “may be used” is intended to be exclusive or non-exclusive? On first reading, I thought it’s exclusive (i.e. “must only be used by PSF stuff”) - but then it would clash with the first sentence’s idea of being for (all) discussions related to PSF.

To be concrete: Is the use of the tag for this post in or out of scope: Feedback on Year-End Donation Banner: When will it be removed? ? If it’s out of scope, what else should it be tagged with?

My take: It’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission. (A popular Python saying, though it didn’t make it into the Zen.)
