My Life Changelog: Small Changes, Big Impact

Over the past few weeks, I’ve made a handful of small changes to my life and routine, and honestly? They’ve had a bigger impact than I expected. None of these were drastic, I didn’t upend my life, overhaul my entire schedule or force myself into strict new habits or routines. Instead, I made intentional swaps that ended up improving my focus, energy, and overall well-being.

So here’s my short “Life Changelog.” Proof that small shifts can make a real difference.

1. Replaced Doomscrolling with Science and Nature Articles

I used to lose way too much time mindlessly scrolling Reddit. Now, instead of getting sucked into endless threads, I’ve started reading science and nature articles and magazines on Apple News+. It’s been a refreshing change—I still get to be online, but now I’m actually learning something instead of absorbing internet drama. I don’t need to read another AITA thread.

2. Reduced My Desk Time

Sitting at my desk for long hours was draining, both mentally and physically. I’ve started being more intentional about taking breaks, standing up and moving around, and even whole days away from my desk engaging in hobbies and moving my body.

3. Turned Reading into a Daily Habit

I’ve always loved reading, but I used to only pick up a book once in a blue moon. Now, I’m reading for roughly 1-3 hours most days, broken up into 20-30 minute “sprints.” Not only am I flying through books and actually enjoying them, but it’s also become one of my favourite ways to spend my time.

4. Practicing Yoga and Meditation

I finally started spending time on my mat, and it’s been such a life-changer. Yoga has helped me feel more connected to my mind and body, and meditation has made me more aware of my thoughts without getting stuck in them. I’m still a beginner, but I’m enjoying the process so far.

5. Journaling Again (Beyond Obsidian)

I’ve always loved taking notes in Obsidian, but I realized I missed the act of journaling more freely. So I picked it up again, both in GoodNotes and Apple’s Journal app. I’ve also started logging my mood, which has helped me notice patterns in my energy and emotions too.

6. Joining Fitness Classes Instead of Going Solo

I used to work out alone, but I’ve switched things up by taking fitness classes. Now, my routine includes functional weights, traditional weights, cycling, yoga, and walking. Having structure and a bit of social accountability has made it so much easier to stay consistent and enjoy what I’m doing.

7. Watching Physical Media Instead of Streaming

Instead of endlessly scrolling through streaming services and never finding anything to watch, I’ve gone back to watching old series I own physically. Right now, I’m making my way through Buffy and Angel, and there’s something really nice about committing to a show without worrying about what else is available.

8. Cutting Back on Caffeine

I used to drink three coffees a day without thinking twice. Now, I’ve cut it down to just one, or one coffee and a decaf tea. It wasn’t an easy switch at first I’m a die hard coffee fanatic. I even have my own coffee machine and enjoy grinding beans and pulling my own espresso shots, but I’ve noticed I don’t crash as hard in the afternoons anymore and I’m not as reliant on my caffeine fix.

9. Getting Creative Just for Myself

I’ve tapped back into my creativity by doodling and making stickers in Procreate, purely for fun. No pressure, no expectations, just creating because I want to. It’s been a great way to unwind and remind myself that creativity doesn’t always have to be productive.

None of these changes were life-altering on their own, but together, they’ve added up to a version of my daily life that feels more balanced, focused, and fulfilling. It’s a good reminder to myself that sometimes, the smallest shifts make the biggest difference and it doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
