Inspiration

We were inspired by our passion for sports and the blockchain, as well as some of the current issues surrounding cryptocurrency, including transparency and security. We wanted to create a community with transparency where users have more control and say in the direction of the DAO. This will help people feel engaged and rewarded by using our platform. We chose to build on XRP due to the scalability, transparency and low gas fees which presents a strong opportunity to build a strong and transparent community DAO.

What it does

WagerDAO is a sports betting platform that enables users to join by owning an NFT. NFTs will guide the experience of the DAO by unlocking voting power. We have deployed an innovative governance system that will utilize NFT ownership to reward and incentivize users.

How we built it

WagerDAO was built using ReactJS to create our landing page/dashboard as well as using JavaScript to connect the XRP Ledger to the dashboard. We also utilized Figma, Miro, and Pitch to visualize the project.

Challenges we ran into

  • Deciding how we were going to best utilize the NFT's and how they would serve the DAO
  • Layout of landing page and dashboard
  • Deciding on how we would reward users when placing bets
  • Researching and designing to address people's hesitancy to contribute to building a web3 sports betting platform. This was addressed by initiating a learning and tutorial section that we plan to build out to help build confidence and educate users on the benefits of betting on the blockchain

We are proud to have been able to combine our diverse skills and pull together our work remotely to build this project and produce a working version.

What's next for WagerDAO

WagerDAO aims to release its first 10,000 membership NFTs in Q1 2023, and as per our roadmap enable cross-chain capability. As we grow and gain more partnerships with sports, we will be able to launch limited edition NFTs, offer discounts and perks to our users and give the power back to our community through the DAO voting mechanism.
