Inspiration
Students often struggle with maintaining consistency, avoiding distractions, and studying collaboratively in an engaging environment. Most productivity tools only solve a single problem — either task management, focus tracking, or communication. We wanted to build a unified platform that combines AI assistance, realtime collaboration, focus management, and analytics into one modern ecosystem for students and focused learners.
What it does
StudyTogether-AI is an AI-powered collaborative productivity platform designed to improve study efficiency and consistency.
The platform includes:
- Smart task and to-do management
- Pomodoro-based focus sessions
- Persistent study session tracking
- Analytics dashboard with focus insights
- Study consistency heatmaps
- Realtime collaborative study rooms
- AI-powered study assistant for doubts, study plans, and productivity help
The application helps users stay productive, collaborate with peers, and gain insights into their learning patterns.
How we built it
We built the frontend using React, TypeScript, Vite, and Tailwind CSS with a modular and scalable architecture. For backend infrastructure, we used Supabase for authentication, PostgreSQL database management, realtime synchronization, and Row Level Security (RLS).
Realtime collaborative study rooms were implemented using Supabase Realtime subscriptions, allowing live participant updates without page refreshes.
For AI capabilities, we integrated OpenRouter APIs to provide an interactive AI study assistant capable of answering study-related questions and generating productivity suggestions.
The platform was designed with reusable UI components and a modern responsive interface to ensure a smooth user experience.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was implementing secure backend logic using Row Level Security policies in Supabase while maintaining seamless user interactions.
We also faced challenges while integrating realtime synchronization for collaborative rooms and managing persistent study session tracking.
Another major challenge was integrating AI APIs efficiently while handling rate limits, authentication issues, and frontend request management.
Managing scalable project architecture and ensuring different modules worked together cohesively was also an important learning experience.
