Inspiration
We were inspired by the Sun.
What it does
"Solar Activity Viewer" displays the locations of the origin points of coronal mass ejections and associated solar flares in augmented reality.
How we built it
We used Unity 3D to build the project incorporating the NASA DONKI APIs and using Microsoft's Mixed-Reality Toolkit to build the project for the Microsoft HoloLens.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating the DONKI APIs, adapting the application for augmented reality
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully integrating the DONKI APIs, creating a compelling augmented reality experience
What we learned
How to integrate APIs, the strengths and weaknesses of augmented reality applications
What's next for Solar Activity Viewer
Adding the ability to vary the time domain so that different data sets may be used, adding the ability to scale and move the Sun, releasing it to the Windows store
