Inspiration
We were inspired by the inefficiencies in traditional procurement workflows. Many organizations still rely on manual paperwork, repetitive approvals, emails, and back-and-forth communication to manage suppliers and spending. This makes it difficult to understand where money is going, why costs are increasing, and how supplier issues can impact operations. POP was created to bring transparency and intelligence into procurement decisions.
What it does
POP (Procurement Observability Platform) is an AI-powered platform that helps businesses monitor spending, analyze supplier performance, detect procurement risks, and identify savings opportunities.
For example, a restaurant chain purchasing ingredients from multiple suppliers can use POP to understand price increases, compare supplier performance, detect unusual cost changes, and receive AI-generated recommendations to reduce expenses.
POP provides:

- Procurement risk alerts
- AI-powered savings recommendations
- Natural language insights for decision-making
How we built it
We built POP using a full-stack architecture with a React and TypeScript frontend, a Node.js and Express backend, and PostgreSQL with Prisma for data management.
The platform integrates an AI service built with Python FastAPI to analyze procurement data, generate supplier insights, identify anomalies, and provide savings recommendations.
We designed the system with scalability in mind using Docker, AWS infrastructure, and event-driven processing for background tasks.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing an AI system that provides meaningful recommendations while keeping humans in control of procurement decisions.
We also had to solve the challenge of transforming raw procurement data into useful insights, creating scoring systems for suppliers, and ensuring that AI-generated recommendations were transparent and explainable.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built an end-to-end procurement intelligence platform that turns complex purchasing data into actionable business insights.
We are proud of creating an AI assistant that can analyze spending patterns, identify risks, and help organizations discover savings opportunities through a simple conversational experience.
What we learned
Building POP taught us how to combine AI with real-world business workflows. We learned the importance of designing AI systems that support decision-making rather than replacing users.
We also gained experience in building scalable full-stack applications, integrating AI services, and creating data-driven products.
What's next for POP - Procurement Observability Platform
Our next steps are to expand POP with more advanced AI capabilities, including predictive procurement forecasting, automated supplier negotiations insights, contract monitoring, and deeper risk analysis.
We aim to make POP a complete intelligence layer for procurement teams, helping organizations save money, reduce risks, and make smarter purchasing decisions.
