Inspiration
Inspired by mental health struggles during the pandemic and the anonymous community forums. The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected many people’s mental health and created new barriers for people already suffering from mental illness. 53% of adults in the US reported that they have struggles within the past year with mental or behavioral health issues associated with COVID-19, including anxiety, depression, increased substance use, and suicidal thoughts, according to national health issues.
What it does
Lilac allows users to track their daily emotions, stressors, and triggers to better understand and manage their mental wellness. Users are also able to engage anonymously with an inclusive community, which is important during these times of self-isolation. Posts and comments are kept anonymous, and there is no direct messaging feature. Lilac also offers breathing exercises and other mental wellness tools. Ideally, with continued daily usage of the app, users would be able to view trends of their logged emotions and stressors.
How I built it
Our team built our app using Dart and Flutter on AndroidStudio. Figma was used to construct a browser-based prototype UI.
Challenges I ran into
Learning the Dart language and familiarizing ourselves with the Flutter kit was challenging. We ran into issues of fixing the nav-bar while scrolling the page, and also had problems with overflow.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Learning Dart and building out the beginnings of an app!
What's next for Lilac
Building and implementing a launch page with login and signup buttons, incorporating Google Firebase, and creating a post page.
