Inspiration
On college campuses, it seems like there are so many people around, but I only have my set of friends. Whenever I'm alone or I just want some more people to hang out with, I wish that I had an app like this.
What it does
Users can basically create ads which tell the people around them what they're doing. For example, they could alert people near them that they are in the game room playing pool, and they could ask others to join.
How I built it
I built it on two platforms, Android and on the Web. The android implementation uses java and XML, while the web implementation uses javascript and react. The heart of both of these are Google Firebase. We also used Google maps api.
Challenges I ran into
I had a lot of problems when trying to use firebase. Since it is an asyncrounous database, I have never worked with anything like it, and it was very difficult.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud of creating an application that will connect people who are alone, and want company.
What I learned
I leanred how to use firebase, connect web and mobile apps, and work with the google maps api to get real time information, and convert from coordinates to real addresses.
What's next for Bored
I think bored has great potential when it comes to android apps. I need to implement features like categories, notifications, and subscriptions. I also need to learn how to write serverside code so that I can remove things automatically.
