Inspiration
I remember seeing a funny video where someone asked ChatGPT, “What should I name my son? (Be creative).” That video was clearly a joke, but it stuck with me. It made me think about how much we now rely on generative AI to write and even think for us.
That constant urge to “just ask AI” is what sparked this project: Ante.
What it does
A focused writing space, free from autocomplete and AI suggestions. Just you and your thoughts. AI is doing a lot of good in the world, but it’s also contributing to what many call AI slop: media flooded with low-quality, inauthentic writing and images. Ante is about stepping back from that. It’s about embracing our own unique way of thinking and writing.
It's about building a community that inspires one another, not through AI-crafted responses, but through honest, human perspective.
Each week, a topic invites the community to write, reflect, and share. You get to see how different people approach the same idea in completely different ways. There are no Likes. No follower counts. Just less pressure to be perfect, and more space to be yourself.
A community grounded in thoughtful expression and driven by a shared love for writing, by people, for people.
How I built it
I started in Figma to create an initial design. I then used Bolt.new to bring the design to life.
From uploading an initial Figma frame to refining the experience through prompting in Bolt, I developed the core functionality, database, and structure for Ante.
For debugging, I used both Bolt and Cursor. I used Bolt for visual bugs to ensure consistency. I used Cursor when it came to fixing bugs that required authentication and a local host page.
I then used Netlify to deploy Ante to: https://antewrite.com/
Challenges I ran into
My background is in design, so learning the technical side of things was an exciting challenge. Setting up a database, figuring out authentication, and deploying a website to a domain were all unfamiliar to me. But with Bolt and the many hackathon resources available, I was able to build and launch Ante.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I went through the whole launch MVP experience using Bolt! I learned how to set up a database using Supabase, enable authentication, and deploy a website with a unique domain name using Netlify. I was able to bring micro-interactions to life and create the product I envisioned (i.e. the floating text formatting toolbar).
What I learned
I learned a lot of new tools! Bolt allows me to bring designs to life. With its integration with Supabase and GitHub, I was able to learn how to set up a database, enable authentication, and track versioning. I also learned how to use Netlify and deploy a web app to a unique domain name.
What's next for Ante
Grow the Ante community and inspire creative writing!
