Genesis Post or Page Settings

The Genesis Framework includes several settings within the block editor’s sidebar that can be configured for individual posts or pages.

In this article, you will learn how to:

  • Access the Genesis Post or Page settings
  • Configure the settings

Access the Genesis Post or Page settings

There are two (2) ways to access the Genesis post or page settings within the block editor. Log in to your WP-Admin dashboard and follow the steps below.

The first way to access them is to use the Genesis icon at the top of the sidebar, shown below.

  1. Genesis Icon: Click the Genesis icon to open the Genesis-specific settings.
  2. Star/Favorite Icon: Click the star icon to pin or unpin the Genesis icon from the top of the sidebar. Note: If you unpin the icon, you’ll still be able to access the Genesis settings, as described in the next section.
  3. Settings Icon: Click the Settings (gear) icon to exit the Genesis settings and return to the standard document and block settings.

The second way to access the Genesis settings is to click the “three dots” More icon. This is also useful if the Genesis icon has been unpinned from the top of the sidebar. See below for details.

  1. More Icon: Click the “three dots” More icon to reveal more tools and options for the block editor.
  2. Genesis: Click the Genesis icon to go to the Genesis post or page settings.

Configure the Settings

The following settings can be configured for individual posts and pages.

  1. Breadcrumbs: Breadcrumb links can be enabled in Appearance > Customize > Theme Settings > Breadcrumbs, or by clicking the Enable/Disable breadcrumbs link included here. And if they are enabled for posts or pages, but you don’t want to display them on an individual post or page, check this box to hide them. See Theme Settings for details about how to enable or disable breadcrumbs on various types of content.
  2. Title: Check the box to hide the page title from view on the front end of the site. This option is available for pages only (not posts).
  3. Layout: The site’s default layout selected in Appearance > Customize > Theme Settings > Site Layout will be automatically applied to the post or page, but you can choose a different layout for this specific post or page here. See Genesis Layout Settings for more details.
  4. Footer Widgets: If the theme you’re using includes footer widgets, but you don’t want to display them on an individual post or page, check this box to hide them.
  5. Custom Classes: If you’d like to apply specific CSS styles to the post or page, you can add the class name(s) here. For example, if you’d like to apply a gray background to a page, you could add a body class named “gray” (without the quotes). Then go to Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS and add the following: gray {background: #eee;} Now any page to which you add the “gray” body class will display a gray background. See How to Customize and Troubleshoot CSS for suggestions on how to experiment with CSS customizations before applying them to your live site.
