Genesis Custom Blocks includes the following handy options to help make it easier to work with your custom blocks:
Undo and Redo
If you make a mistake while creating the fields for your custom block, you can undo or redo your last action for as long as you remain on the current screen. If you navigate away from the screen, the option will be disabled.

Field Location
You can choose where to display your custom field:
- Editor Fields will display the field in the main editing area of a post or page.
- Inspector Fields will display the field in the right-hand sidebar under the block inspector.
There are two different methods available to select your field locations.
- When you first enter the custom blocks admin area, you’ll see the location options directly below the block’s title as shown in the image below.

- After adding a new field, you’ll also see the location options in the inspector (in the right-hand sidebar), as shown in the image below.

Modal for Displaying Editor Fields
If you’d like to display your custom block’s editor fields in a modal (inside the post or page editor), check the Open block fields in a modal box to enable it, as shown in the image below.
This option is useful if you’re building a block with a large number of editor fields because the modal makes it easier for users to add their content to the fields.
Note: The modal only displays editor fields, not inspector fields.

Then when a user adds the custom block to the post or page editor, they can click on the block to open the modal (as shown in the image below) and then add their content as needed. Clicking anywhere outside the modal will close it and return the user to the default screen.

Delete and Duplicate Field
The options to delete or duplicate a field appear at the bottom of the block’s inspector (in the right-hand sidebar), as shown in the image below.
These options will only appear after adding a field to your custom block and they are only applied to the field in focus.
