Points that are going to expire create an urgency for customers to use these points, but they also require you to manage how you handle point expiration and any issues that may arise from it. When you do not properly manage an expiration, the result is a frustrated customer who has less faith in your loyalty program, therefore ruining their trust in your company.
This article will demonstrate how to accurately monitor, communicate and manage Expiring Points using LoyaltyX – WooCommerce Points and Rewards plugin.
The Basics of Expired Points in LoyaltyX #
To successfully manage your Loyalty Program, it is important to understand and manage Expired Points, which is achieved with the help of the Expiring Points Dashboard. Through the Expiring Points Dashboard, you will gain an understanding of what points are about to expire, allowing you to reach out proactively to your customers regarding their upcoming expirations and maintain their involvement with your loyalty program.
Also, by observing the trends, you can manage trends of when points have expired, and implement strategies to improve customer retention and to optimize redemption rates for your customers on a regular basis.
How to Manage Expired Points #
Your business has lost revenue potential when a loyal customer accumulates points but fails to redeem them before expiration. Furthermore, losing hard-earned real and digital currencies by not redeeming them diminishes the trust and loyalty that your customer has in your program.
Therefore, having a well-thought-out strategy for managing expired points is essential for the following reasons:
- Be able to identify customers’ most valued points that will soon be expiring and initiate programs to help prevent loss of value for your customers.
- Send information in advance to customers and remind them that their points will be expiring.
- Prevent customers from being frustrated by the unexpected loss of points.
- Make informed business decisions on how and when to implement outdated (Expired) Points.
- Identifying opportunities where you can continue supporting a customer’s ability to use their points.
Accessing the Expiring Points Dashboard #
Here is how to access the Expiring Points view:
- Log in to your WordPress Admin area and visit DevDiggers Plugins → LoyaltyX → Expiring Points.
- The dashboard will provide you with all expiring points and will have the option to filter and search through the data.

Description of Columns in the Expiring Points Table #

The Expiring Points Table contains a single table with the columns listed below:
- ID: Unique identifier for each expiring point record in the Expiring Points Dashboard e.g. 1 = transaction with point amount of x, y, z and so on.
- Event: Type of transaction/event will be used to identify how the customer earns the expiring points e.g. completed a certain number of orders, logged into the site on a daily basis, etc.
- User: This displays the name of the customer as well as their email address that is associated with this record. You will want to use this to get to the Customer’s profile and look at all of the information that relates to the expiring points (complete history of the points earned, etc.
- Points Earned: This is displayed in a GREEN color. – The total number of points originally earned and is the same number of points that were used to create the Item for which they were awarded (i.e. +185, +422, +447, +395, etc.). This will show you how many points were used to make the original Customer’s transaction prior to expiring or redeeming.
- Points Used: The number of points that have already been redeemed from this particular point transaction (shown as red). For example, -0 (means none of the points have been used yet), -195 (means some of the points have been used, but not all), and -288 (means most of the points have been used). This represents the number of points that have been “used” from this transaction.
- Date: Indicates when the customer earned exactly at that moment. The format will be something like this: “October 15, 2025 08:02:24 AM”. This is the date of the transaction where points were earned.
- Modified On: Points were modified/updated in our system. Also shown in the regular format, “October 15, 2025 08:02:24 AM”. It may have changed after points were redeemed or adjusted.
- Expires On: Exact date and time that points expire if not redeemed (i.e., October 15, 2026). This is needed to know how soon to reach out.
- Status: Current point status. Available values are:
- Active: Points can still be redeemed.
