Ips containers
Designed to protect classified computers, servers, and communication equipment
IPS Containers
IPS Container – for Information Processing System Container
They are GSA-approved, secure cabinets (usually Class 5) designed to protect classified computers, servers, and communication equipment while allowing them to operate unattended with the doors closed. These containers feature specialized cable entries and ventilation to keep equipment secure yet functional.
Key Details About IPS Containers:
Purpose: They protect classified information, including COMSEC (Communications Security) and COMPUSEC (Computer Security) equipment, from forced entry and surreptitious surveillance.
Design: These are “closed-door” operating cabinets, meaning servers and computers can run, process, and transmit classified data while locked inside.
Components: They typically include rack-mounting assemblies, universal cable exit assemblies, power supplies, and, in many cases, fan/cooling systems.
Approval: They must meet strict government standards, specifically Federal Specification AA-C-2786, to ensure they provide adequate physical security.
They are used by government agencies and contractors as a more cost-effective, immediate alternative to building a fully armored SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility) room.
