However, identifying these insights in large volumes of modern public health data can be laborious<a href=\"#fn1\" class=\"footnote-ref\" id=\"fnref1\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>. As a result, over the past few decades, public health agencies have built monitoring systems, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nssp\/new-users.html\">ESSENCE<\/a> (CDC) and <a href=\"https:\/\/dhis2.org\/\">DHIS2<\/a> (WHO), where users can set custom statistical alerts and then investigate these alerts using data visualizations<a href=\"#fn2\" class=\"footnote-ref\" id=\"fnref2\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a>. About 12 million data points were found to be faulty, which made up about 20% of the data available from JHU-CSSE as of the time of the fix. During the 2020 pandemic, the center expanded to include real-time tracking (&ldquo;nowcasting&rdquo;) and forecasting of COVID-19, giving rise to the COVIDcast project. Our goal is to inform public health responses and policy development at the national, state and local levels.
