Triloki Nath Madan (Hindi त्रिलोकी नाथ मदन; * 12. September 1933 in Srinagar) ist ein indischer Ethnologe, Soziologe und Hochschullehrer.

Leben und Wirken

Triloki Nath Madan studierte Soziologie, Ethnologie und Wirtschaftswissenschaft an der University of Lucknow und erwarb dort 1953 den Magistergrad. An dieser Universität war er anschließend bis 1956 und von 1959 bis 1962 als Dozent für Ethnologie tätig. Von 1957 bis 1958, aber auch in der Zeit danach bis 1986, unternahm er ethnologische Forschungen in Kaschmir. Im Jahre 1960 promovierte er an der Australian National University zum Ph.D. Von 1962 bis 1963 war er Dozent an der University of London und bis 1966 an der Karnatak University. Als Professor für Soziologie lehrte Madan dann von 1966 bis zu seiner Emeritierung 1996 an der University of Delhi. Gastprofessuren hatte er an mehreren Universitäten in den USA und Japan inne. Im Jahre 1989 wurde er Mitglied des Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland. Die Universität Paris X verlieh ihm 1993 die Ehrendoktorwürde.

T. N. Madan veröffentlichte vor allem über die Sozialanthropologie, Religion und Gesellschaft in Indien.
