Modal verbs
Rule1: ‘ich’ and ‘er/sie/es’ will be same.
Rule2: For du, add ‘st’ to ‘ich’ form.
Rule3: Modal verb is at position 2 in the conjugated form and
the other verb goes at the end in the basic form.
1. können (can)
Conjugation:
ich kann
wir können
du kannst
ihr könnt
Sie/Sie können
er/sie/es kann
sie können
Examples:
I can swim well.
Ich kann gut schwimmen.
We can cook a pizza.
Wir können eine Pizza kochen.
You can speak German.
Du kannst Deutsch sprechen.
They can run fast.
Sie können schnell laufen.
I cannot read a book.
Ich kann ein Buch nicht lesen.

2. müssen (must/have to) (lazmi)
Conjugation:
ich muss
wir müssen
du musst
ihr müsst
Sie/Sie müssen
er/sie/es muss
sie müssen
Examples:
I must do my homework.
Ich muss meine Hausaufgabe machen.
You have to go.
Du musst gehen.
He must stay at home.
Er muss zu Hause bleiben.

3. sollen (should) (mujhay ye kam karna chahiye)
Conjugation:
ich soll
wir sollen

Example:
I should do my homework.
Ich soll meine Hausaufgabe machen.
She should drink coffee.
Sie soll Kaffee trinken.

4. mögen (like) (mujhay ye cheez/kam pasand hai)
Conjugation:
ich mag
wir mögen
du magst
ihr mögt
Sie/Sie mögen
er/sie es mag
sie mögen
Example:
Mostly used with nouns.
I like pizza.
Ich mag Pizza.
We like our work.
Wir mögen unsere Arbeit.
You like cooking.
Du magst kochen.
I do not like apple.
Ich mag Apfel nicht. / Apfel mag ich nicht.
I like red.
Ich mag rot.
Do they like Berlin? Mögen sie Berlin?

5. wollen (want to) = möchten (main ye kam karna chahta
hun)

6. dürfen (may) = permission/proihibition

One may drive a car at the age of seventeen.
Man darf mit 17 Auto fahren.
