LESSON 2: Understanding the Basic Concepts in ICT
Educational Technology - the use of technology in teaching and learning it can be digital and non-digital
devices.
Digital Literacy - the ability to find, evaluate, utilize, share and create contents using information technologies
and the Internet (Cornell University).
Digital learning - any type of learning that is accompanied by technology or by instructional practice that
makes effective use of technology.
Multimedia - sequential or simultaneous use of variety of media formats in a given presentation of self-study
program.
Software - program control instructions and accompanying documentation.
Webquest - an inquiry-oriented lesson format in which most of all information that learners work with comes
from the web. These can be created using various programs including simple word processing documents that
include links to websites.
Productivity Tools - any type of software associated with computers and related technologies that can be used
as tools for personal, professional or classroom productivity.
Google Apps - cloud-based teaching tool which is stored in the Google server and is available for students both
at home and in school.
Flipped Classroom - an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning where traditional teaching
methods are reversed. Instead of learning new content in the classroom and doing assignments at home, students
are introduced to new material at home and practice working through it in class.
Augmented Reality - technology that overlays digital information—such as images, sounds, videos, and other
sensory enhancements—onto the real world in real-time. This technology enhances the user's perception of
reality by blending the physical environment with computer-generated elements, allowing users to interact with
both simultaneously.
Asynchronous learning - teaching method that allows students to access course materials, complete
assignments, and engage in learning activities at their own pace and on their own schedule, rather than in real-
time.

LESSON 3 AND 4
ROLES OF TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING
THREE DOMAINS OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
TECHNOLOGY AS A TUTOR
TECHNOLOGY AS A TEACHING TOOL
TECHNOLOGY AS A LEARNING TOOL
For Teachers and Teaching
Technology provides enormous support to the teacher as the facilitator of learning.
Technology has modernized the teaching-learning environment.
Technology improves teaching-learning process and ways of teaching
Technology opens new fields in educational researches
Technology adds to the competence of teachers and inculcates scientific outlook
Technology supports teacher professional development
For Learners and Learning
Support learners to learn how to learn on their own
Declarative knowledge- Answers the questions: What, Who, When, Where
Structural knowledge- consists of facts or pieces of declarative knowledge put together to attain some
form of meaning
Procedural knowledge- knowledge in action or the knowledge of how to do something
Technology enhances Learner’s Communication Skills through Social Interactions.
Point to point- Internet chat, phone conversation or even face to face conversation
One-to-many- There is no social interaction.
Many-to-many- provides opportunities for social interaction
Technology upgrades learners’ higher-order thinking skills: critical thinking, problems solving and creativity
Critical Thinking- the ability to interpret, explain, analyze, evaluate, infer, and self-regulate in order to
make good decisions.
Ask the right questions
Use critical thinking tasks with appropriate level of challenge
Creativity- as involving the ability to think flexibly, fluently, originally, and elaborately
