Safety Instructions
DANGER: Before installing and/or operating this device, this manual must
Q be understood by the qualified electrical maintenance person who
is familiar with this type of equipment and the hazards
involved. Failure to observe this precaution could result in
bodily injury
WARNING: Earth fault detection devices must not be used on this
converter as the sole protection measure against unintentional
A fouching. ‘The DC-component in the earth fault current may
inhibit the correct function of the fault detector.

To inhibit uncontrolled machine operation in case of the
malfunction of the drive, the user must provide an external
emergency stop circuit, which ensures disconnection of the power
source from the motor. This circuit must be hardwired with
electro-mechanic components and shall not depend on electronic
logic or software. The stopping device (e.g. mushroom head
pushbutton with lock) must be accessible to the operator.
Failure to observe this precaution could result in bodily injury
or loss of life.
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC-Directive)
CAUTION: The operating of inverters in the Burepean market is only
permitted if the Council Directive Electromagnetic Compatibility
A §9/326/aWG hes ‘been observed.
It is the responsibility of the manufacturer of the machine or
system to observe the inmunity and emission limits, requested by
the Council Directive EMC in the European market. Guidelines for
the installation according EMC-regulations - as shielding,
grounding, filter arrangement as well as wiring instructions -
are summarized in Appendix A, ‘CE-Conformance’ of this

4, INSTALLATION AUD CONNBOPTON
4.1 Assembly
Always observe the following
reguirenents when installing the
MINITRON in control cabinets:
= Comply with mandatory protection
standards to prevent contact with live
components (covers) and shock when a
fault occurs (safe GND), e.g- as per
TBC-204 or YDE 100;
Therefore the installation should be
done by instructed and qualified
electrical personnel only.
~ Fix the unit in the position
represented in Figure 2-1 and leave a
gap of at least 100 mm for the free
circulation of cooling air and to
eliminate the possibility of internal
hot spots.
4.2 Ventilation
Cabinet ventilation must be designed so
that the air temperature in the cabinet
nowhere exceeds 45°C (nominal operating
temperature) under maximun permissible
continuous current loading. Basing
calculations of the cooling air flow op
an increase in temperature of 4 7 = 10°
‘the supply of cooling air (e.g. from the
cabinet environment)
must not exceed a temperature of 35°C.
If these tomporature limits cannot be
maintained, a reduction in power of the
MINITRON must be taken into account.
[cAUION: Maximuz permissible ambient
operating temperature of the
MINITRON of 55°C must never
be exceeded.
= resulting heat dissipated must be
exhausted by suitably dimensioned
fang. For power dissipation values
depending on controller output current
please refer to chapter 2.1
4:5 Connection
For necessary connections refer to the
following interconnection diagrans
Figures 4-1 to 4-3.
4.31 General signal wire instructions:
= The category signal conductors
encompasses all conductors that are
galvanically connected to drive or
control electronic circuits
eg. taoho, roference, indicators.
= Keep signal wire connections as short
ag possible.
= Separate signal wires fron current
carrying wires ¢.g. control cirouits
(E> 0.1 A) a9 far as possible.
Use separate conduit.
Signal wLree should not be run near
electro-magnetic fields of high energy
(notors, transformers)
= Cross signal with non gignal conductor
at angle of between 45° and 90°
= To avoid ground loops, connect only
fone end of the screen’ to ground.
(earth bus in the cabinet).
= Use steel shielded, twisted cables.
4.3.2 Transient suppression of contactor
and rolay coile:
Switching of contactor and relay colle
causes transient voltages, which can
disturb electronic circuits.
In order to avoid potential problens,
the following rule applies:
A121 contactor and relay coils connected
to the arive have to be equipped with
suppression networks. AC-coils with
R-unite, De-coile with diodes in non
conducting direction.49"1194 6

potentioneter 4/U MIN
= Check speed regulator stability.
If the drive oscillates,
adjust N/U STAB potentioneter
= Switch OFF.

5.3.2 Check of the IR-drop compensation
The IR-drop compensation should only be
used in voltage regulation mode.
Initially set jumper (W1) to (IRI) or
(tR2) according to motor IR-drop on
notor data sheet.
= Switch ON end run unloaded at desired
speed
= Load the drive to full load current
and cheok that speed is the same as
unloaded. Reduce IR-comp. if drive
tends to instability
~ For this switch OFF and change jumper
plug from pos. IR2 to IR1.
5.3.3 Adjuetment of the reference
integrator (LVI)
‘The acceleration time is set with
potentiometer J and the deceleration
time with potentioneter \
5.34 Adjustment of current limit
In case of motor currents markedly
below those stated in Table 3-1 for the
different junpor plug positions,
the current limit setting may be reduced
by turning potentiometer IMAK cow.
Check for proper junper plug position
It, 12 or 5
= Connect ammeter into amature okt
= Disconnect field supply
= Verity that the motor does not turn
due to resanence
(block the notor if necessary)
= Turn potentiometer IMAX to the left
end stop
= Switch ti and apply 100% reference
= fur potentioneter slowly ew until the
desired armature current is reached
= Switch OFF
WORE: With stalled motor max. current
is allowed for a short tine only,
otherwise the conmutator may be
damaged
Adjustment of the add. functions
‘only with Fil-card inserted)
5e4e1 Adjustment of JOG-speed
Switeh ON and apply control voltage to
isolated JOG-input
Adjust desired JOU-speed by turning
the JOG-reference potentioneter cw.
5-4-2 Adjustment of speed detector
Check jumper plug for desired
switching range 0/6% or 60/120%
Turn potentioneter N/U L8VEL to the
left end stop
Switoh ON and give RU order
(Relay K2 picks up)
Increase reference slowly mtil the
speed is reached where the comparator
should switch
Turn potentiometer N/U LEVEL slowly
ew, util relay K2 drops out
= Switch OFF.4g' 1194 e
6. TROUBLE SHOOTING
6.1 Safety precautions
WARNING! Trouble shooting should be |
done by instructed and
qualified electrical personnel]
only. Before touching any
internal parts, disconnect
all input supplies. Verify thel
absence of hazardous voltages
by the use of a voltmeter.
WOH
Static sensitive PC boards.
Handle without touching
‘components, connectors or
leads. When soldering variable|
‘components on the FBA-card,
disconnect the RPA-card first.|
6.2 Trouble shooting
6.2.1 Zest instruments
Yor trouble shooting outside the
controller only a miltinoter having a
Sensitivity of 100 k Ohn/Volt is needed.
For trouble shooting inaide tho
controller a buzzer and an Oscilloscope
(KO) will be required.
Wor: The KO used must not be grounded.
Tt should (if possible)
be connected to mains by means
of an isolation transformer.
Yoltage measurements on the
power unit must be differential.
For checking the controller care
must bo taken, that the housing
of the KO is connected to zero
potential of the controller
(Germinal 157).
6.2.2 Fault causes
As the NINITRON i dolivered fully
tested, problems during start-up are
caused in most cases by faults outside
the controller such as
~ Engineering errors
= Wrong connections
= Operating faults
= Wrong regulator sdaptations.
6.2.3 Trouble shooting steps
+ Determine operation condition
where the fault occurs
* Determine fault symptom
With thig information consult the
following Table 6-1 of trouble shooting
suggestions and locate the fault with
‘the aid of connection plan.
If this procedure should not be
successful, trouble shooting must be
continued ayatematically in or against
the direction of signal flow in the
power unit, control ~ or regulator
circuits.49
