Orcs Vs Reiklanders

The last battle report for this round sees the Orcs pitted against the Reikland mercenaries.

The Orcs and Reiklanders started by advancing carefully towards each other. The Reiklanders began the fighting by taking a shot at Shagwolf with a longbow which managed to stun him. This then started an argument between Lagstuf and Glug about whether Shagwolf was as stupid as Glug’s mother and where he best place to stand would be. The rest of the Orcs stood back to watch the argument unfold, however Orthrod and Radbog climbed to the top of the tower where they were stood and settled the argument with a cuff round the back of the head. The Reiklanders took advantage of this lull to sneak along a hedge. No sooner was one argument settled among the Orcs then another started with Lagstuf shouting obscenities at Orcobal the Shaman, a brave thing to do when you could be turned into a toad. Another arrow stunned Radbog and the Reiklanders moved forward and hid behind a large hedge. Grymm settled the argument between Lagstuf and Orcobal before deciding that actually Lagstuf was right and joining in, while ignoring a hail of arrows flying all around them causing absolutely no damage to anybody. Orthrod and Radbog took a couple of shots and missed while a reply from the Reiklanders hit its target but failed to wound.

Grymm decided that Orcobal was really annoying him now and took the opportunity of a battle raging around them to tell him in no uncertain terms. Baldog and Agog spotted the Reiklanders hiding behind the hedge and Orthrod and Radbog took pot-shot’s at them which failed to come anywhere near their targets. The Reiklanders replied with their bows again hitting but failing to wound, however a pistol shot stunned Agog. At this point a recovered Shagwolf led the charge in and managed to take out a Reiklander Champion, Lagstuf and Glug took a Youngblood out of the battle and Radbog knocked over another Reiklander. The Reiklanders counter attacked, stunning Shagwolf but found themselves unable to take advantage of it while Glug was knocked to the floor and a pistol shot from the Captain stunned Lagstuf. Radbog started boasting to Orthrod about what a great shot he was with a crossbow so Orthrod decided to shut him up by knocking over another Reiklander himself. Orcobal finally realised that Grymm had been insulting him so started to yell insults back. Grymm however ignored him and charged into close combat, knocking down a Reiklander. The Reiklander Captain decided that enough was enough and despite the Orcs arguing among themselves it would be better to live to fight another day and called his men off, leaving the streets to the Orcs.

That’s it for this round. The next round of battles is decided and will be the subject of my next post. Things are hotting up and we’ll see what the results from this round lead to.

Chaos V Mordheimers

First off I must start with apologies. It’s been a month since my last post caused by delays at the club. Hopefully now the whole thing will be up and running smoothly.

This write up sees Chaos against the locals.

The battle started with Chaos showing they mean business and running towards the Mordheimers. The Mordheimer messengers Belinda Bremner and Marcus Pukrofski ran forward with the Spearmen to get out of their way and Lieutenant Thomas Hertzler took a quick shot with his Longbow but missed. The Chaos troops decided to get into action and charged knocking Sargent Podrask to the floor but failing to cause any casualties.

The Possessed Crabby gets stuck in followed up by Clinger and Stinger

The Mordheimer archers let fly but failed to find their targets. Torston Hess took a Beastman out of action with a lucky hit and Haiko Ruttman stunned the Possessed Crabby with another lucky hit and then Shaun Morrison took him out of action permanently. Chaos retaliated and stunned Hess and Morrison but where unable to finish them off and a Beastman managed to put Ruttman out of action. The Mordheimers took this in their stride though and struck back, Sandro Falconte stunning the mutant Stinger who was then taken out by Mark Barrett. The archers all fired at the cultists who weren’t in combat but failed to hit their marks again but Sargent Podrasek managed to take the tentacled mutant Clinger out of the battle.

At this point the Chaos Cultists decided they had had enough and left the field of battle to the locals.

Pirates V’s Pit Fighters

The first battle report this week sees the Pit Fighters up against the crew of the Dancing Corpse. This was my battle so is likely to be a bit more detailed then some of the others. Both gangs had left behind a number of their gang to protect the home base so numbers were fairly even.

As the Pirate player I knew I would be outmatched in hand to hand so tried my best to keep them at a distance while the Pit Fighters knew he had nothing to match my shooting so had to stay in cover until he was close enough to charge.

The start saw both sides advancing slowly, wary of the other. The Pit Fighters started to split with half the gang going either side of a large derelict house. The Pirates reacted to this by also splitting, the Captain and a bosun running left another bosun running right leaving the gunners in the middle with the Mate and Cabin Boy.

One group of the Pit Fighters ran between a gap between buildings back into cover while the other group started to move through the derelict building. The main body of the Pirates moved back slowly, wary of the approaching Pit Fighters while the Bosun on his own climbed onto the roof of the building he was next to and the Captain and bosun on the left moved forward and had a shot at a fighter who hadn’t quite got into the door of the building. The Captain hit but only managed to knock him down. The fighter quickly got back to his feet and followed his friends through the building. The other group of fighters continued moving cagily round the back of a building apart from one brave individual who moved out into the open to throw a javelin at the bosun on the roof but missed.

Sensing an opportunity the Pirates moved forward. A gunner fired his blunderbuss at some pit fighters who weren’t as well hidden as they thought, stunning one and taking another out of the fight. The bosun on the roof fired back at the javelin man but missed. The Captain and bosun decided not to follow the Pit Fighters through the building and moved back towards the main body of men.

Goaded by the shot the javelin man charged the gunner with his now useless weapon but failed to hit. The gunner swung back with an axe in reply and struck home taking the javelin man out of action. Two of the Pit Fighters in the building felt it was safe to show themselves and moved out into the open. Feeling emboldened by his previous success the gunner charged one of these two only to be knocked flat on his back. Meanwhile the Mate and Cabin Boy charged the other. The Mate managed to knock him down where the Cabin Boy could easily finish him off.

Slightly shaken but still up for the fight the Pit King and one of his men charged into the Mate who was unable to withstand the flurry of blows rained down on him, succumbing to the punch dagger of the Pit King. Meanwhile the Pit Fighter fighting the gunner failed to seize his chance of a quick kill and the gunner got back to his feet.

The Cabin Boy seeing the Mate fall so easily backed away and the second gunner moved in with his blunderbuss and fired. Two more of the Pit Fighters fell and the Pirate who had just stood up was blasted off his feet again. The Captain and both bosun’s all fired their pistols at the Pit King knocking him off his feet.

With this final blow the Pit King decided that enough was enough and the Pit Fighters pulled out of the fight leaving victory to the Pirates.

A  fun game and there is no doubting I was lucky with my dice. The next two battle reports will go up during the next week as I get them written up.

Not much happening.

Quiet week this week with no battles taking place so not much to report. This does mean that next week there will be three battles taking place to write up so that will keep me busy. Also we have gained a new gang with a group of mercenaries from Marienburg being seen in the city and there are rumours of yet another gang but details are still sketchy at this stage. More next week folks.

The Skaven meet the Norse

This week saw the first battle in the campaign with the Skaven meeting the Norse.

Image

The Skaven move forward to contact.

At the start Red Eyed Vengance, the Skaven warband led by Pai Mei, advanced cautiously against Odin’s Corsairs who were doing likewise. As they closed to within range the Long Spike pack started to sling stones at the Norse but to no effect. Rather than staying to be shot at by the rats the Norse charged forward into combat. This proved to be a mistake as a Marauder was knocked out and a Bondsman was taken out of action by the Long Spikes. Smelling blood the pack surged forward. Stab Stab Cut Cut eliminated the downed Corsair and Bone Snap’s Claw Pack eliminated a Marauder. The Norse stayed put and shot bows managing to knock Bone Snap down. With the scent of blood in their nostrils the Skaven moved forward again and Bone Snaps Claws took out another Corsair. The Norse again stood and let fly with their bows but this time with no effect. Laughing off the Norse attempts the Skaven took out two more of the Corsairs, one by the Assaain Adept and one by Stab Stab Cut Cut. Still not liking their chances the Norse once more stood and used their bows but their gods were not with them and once more they had no impact. The Assassin Adept threw Ninja stars at one of the corsair hunters, while the Norse yet again used their bows but to no avail. A hail of stones eliminated the last Hunter left and that was it, the Norse decided that they had had enough and left the battleground to the Skaven.

That evening two small boats were seen drifting ablaze, floating with the currant, whilst the Norse were raisin the roof in memory of their fallen comrades. Although they were beaten there are no sour grapes among the Norse.

(Thanks to Christie for the details and the puns)

Let’s get started

Welcome to Dave’s Mordheim Blog. In this blog I’m hoping to chart the Mordheim campaign being played at my local club Huntingdon and District wargames group.

The campaign is being run by Christie using his vast Mordheim resources and currently has six gangs with Christie also running any encounters with locals. The initial gangs are, the crew of the pirate ship The Dancing Corpse who are controlled by me, a gang of Chaos cultists, some Norse raiders after pillage, a group of Reikland mercenaries, a band of Skaven and finally a group of pit fighters. Anyone wishing to join in at a later date will be more than welcome.

Mordheim map

The campaign is being played out in the north of the city close to the river. All players have chosen starting locations which will be their home base for exploring the ruins and no one currently knows where anyone else is.

All gangs are starting at a value of 750 Crowns but your home base must also be defended from whatever is lurking in the city. Do you dare risk sending out your whole gang just to find your base ransacked and your loot gone?

Rumours will appear about what is happening in the city, some known by all, some by only one or two. Players choices will determine who encounters who and what scenarios are played.

The starting match ups are known. My pirates will be facing the pit fighters, the rats will be facing the wolves (Norse), the chaos cultists are facing some locals and the Reikland mercenaries have encountered a roving band of Orcs.

As I get the results of the battles I will put them up and any information I get that’s not secret.

Let the battles commence!
