Application for the B.S. in Data Science

The application will open Feb. 1, 2026 for the spring 2026 semester.

  • Feb. 1, 2026: Application opens.
  • March 19, 2026, 11:59 p.m.: Last day to request an application for the B.S. in Data Science. The link to the application arrives to your UNC student email address within one to two days.
  • March 21, 2026, 11:59 p.m.: Last day to submit an application that has been requested by March 19.

B.S. in Data Science Info Sessions

If you would like more information about the B.S. in Data Science degree, we are hosting multiple online information sessions. Please register for one of these information sessions and learn more about the application timeline and the overall course of study.

For Undergraduate Transfer Students

The transfer application for fall opens in August and is completed through the Common Application.

First-Year and Sophomore Students

If you’re applying as a first-year or sophomore transfer student, with fewer than 60 hours of transferrable credit, you’ll apply to the College of Arts and Sciences. After enrolling at Carolina, you will need to spend at least one semester enrolled in Carolina courses being eligible to apply to the B.S in Data Science major. If you are admitted and choose to enroll here, you’ll work closely with an academic adviser to plan your coursework and prepare for the B.S in Data Science through the School of Data Science and Society.

Junior Students

If you’re applying as a junior transfer student, with more than 60 hours of transferrable credit, you can apply directly to the B.S. in Data Science major within the School of Data Science and Society. Junior transfer students should plan to complete most, if not all, of the data science prerequisites prior to your first semester at UNC-Chapel Hill with the exception of DATA 110, which will be a requirement to complete within your first semester at Carolina.
