Global Access Program

The Global Access Program (GAP) was established to enable communities worldwide to make their research outputs discoverable through DataCite services. Through the Global Access Fund (GAF), GAP provides financial support for both outreach activities and infrastructure development for organizations in regions and communities currently underrepresented in the global open science infrastructure landscape.

Initial support for the Global Access Program was made possible by grant 2022-316573 from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which enabled two cycles of funding awarded to twenty projects across Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Future award cycles are currently pending subsequent resourcing. If your organization wishes to contribute to the Global Access Fund, please contact [email protected]

Global Access Fund Awards

Applications for the Global Access Fund are open to both members and non-members of DataCite from countries and are reviewed and selected by a GAF committee with input from external reviewers and final approval by the DataCite Board.

Awardees commit to attending a call with DataCite staff every other month throughout the duration of the project to discuss progress and exchange ideas with other awardees. Awardees also commit to writing a blog post, final report and to participating in a webinar to showcase the process and impact of the project. All project outputs are expected to be made openly available under a relevant license, and recipients are expected to adhere to DataCite’s ethics standards.
