This accessibility statement applies to the following content and services hosted at https://datacite.org, including:
- DataCite main website
- DataCite Metadata Schema site
- DataCite Commons
- DataCite Fabrica
- DataCite Data Files Service
Standards and Compliance Status
Ensuring accessibility is a priority for DataCite, which follows the principles outlined in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2.
In 2025, we enlisted the company Northosts AB to conduct a thorough audit of the DataCite website and address technical and content-related issues across key pages. Using Google Lighthouse/PageSpeed benchmarks, Northosts adjusted templates, headers, footers, and page-specific content. These improvements align with WCAG 2.2 principles and establish a sustainable foundation for accessibility. Ongoing editorial compliance with accessibility best practices will ensure continued inclusivity and adherence to international standards.
Known Limitations and Planned Improvements
Accessibility audits and improvement cycles are carried out across DataCite websites and services in stages. The 2025 audit focused on the DataCite main website. Additional assessments and improvements are underway in DataCite Commons, DataCite Fabrica, and the DataCite Metadata Schema website.

Timeline and History
DataCite reviews accessibility across its websites and services on an ongoing basis. Recent audits and improvement cycles include:
- May 2026: An accessibility review confirmed that recently completed improvements are having a positive impact across several DataCite services. By prioritizing fixes that benefit multiple sites, including shared elements such as footer contrast, DataCite achieved broader accessibility improvements on DOI Fabrica, DataCite Commons, and the DataCite Metadata Schema website. Selected checks showed improved accessibility scores across these services. This review focused on a small number of sub-pages, and a full audit is planned once active accessibility work is completed for DataCite Commons, DOI Fabrica, and the DataCite Metadata Schema website.
- May–June 2025: Northosts AB conducted an accessibility audit of the DataCite main website and adjusted templates, headers, footers, and selected page content, using WCAG 2.2 principles and Lighthouse/PageSpeed benchmarks. The audit also identified minor HTML errors in the blog archive, styling issues related to a third-party authorship plugin on individual blog pages, inaccessible UTC date formatting on some event pages, and missing alternative (ALT) text in some older blog posts published before 2023. DataCite then initiated development work to address missing ALT text at scale and resolve or mitigate remaining issues as part of ongoing accessibility improvements.
