Subnational Population Statistics are produced by and contributed to HDX by UNFPA and, in the case of Ukraine, are exceptionally shared by OCHA Ukraine with the approval of UNFPA. The 2025 update of the Common Operational Dataset on Population Statistics (COD-PS) in Ukraine draws on the best available population and demographic data (spanning 23 key data sources), as of July 15, 2025, and provides a snapshot of the projected population by sex and 5-year age groups at the ADM-2 (raion) level. It provides reference population estimates to guide humanitarian needs assessment and operational humanitarian response plans. The 2025 COD-PS update was produced by UNFPA on behalf of the Humanitarian Country Team in Ukraine. The update comprises subnational population projections with a reference date of July 2025. The updated COD-PS has been produced to support effective coordination of humanitarian and recovery planning, decision-making, and action in Ukraine. The disclosure and use of this COD-PS is for the members of the Humanitarian Country Team and those directly involved with recovery programme work in Ukraine. Until further notice, this data should be treated as ‘restricted’ and shared for this specified purpose. The 2025 COD-PS update, like all COD-PS updates, is strictly a humanitarian data product of the United Nations aligned to the "best available humanitarian data standard". It does not represent or, in any way, replace official statistics or official population projections of the Government of Ukraine and it does not meet the international standards of official statistics.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) partnered with donors and UN agencies and took up the lead role to support the Somali authorities in undertaking the Population Estimation Survey (PESS) for Somalia in October 2013- March 2014. UNFPA investigated replacement or projection of this dataset in 2021. Only ADM0 (national) data was available. No better alternative is currently available. PESS gathered basic critical information on the Somalis living in urban, rural and nomadic areas (interviewed at water points during the peak of the long, dry season), and in settlements for internally displaced persons. One standard questionnaire was used in selected enumeration areas or pre-identified areas. Data was collected in three main phases: cartographic field mapping, household listing in the sampled areas, and the interviewing of households using the standard questionnaire. PESS report by UNFPA had only the population estimate at regional level (Admin level 1). With the demand to get this data disaggregated to district level to enhance assessment and in particular assessments of people in food insecure by FAO-FSNAU, the district data was interpolated using FSNAU livelihood information embedded in the 2005 UNDP district level population data The data collected in 2024 has now been endorsed for use.

Global administrative level 1-4 boundaries (COD-AB) dataset for 45 countries / territories, historic versions. This is an aggregation of subnational administrative boundaries available in 3 variations: Edge-Matched: Subnational boundaries are aligned to fit international boundaries. This process results in simplification at the international border, but gaps and overlaps are eliminated. The internal resolution of each subnational boundary layer is not modified by this process. Recommended to use for most use cases. Original: Subnational boundaries are unmodified from their original source. There will be gaps and overlaps at the international border. Recommended if maintaining the integrity of the initial source is important. Extended: This is an intermediate step in the process before edge-matching. Recommended for organizations with specific international boundary needs. Metadata about sources used is also available as a table. A version of this dataset is also available with latest boundaries.
