(Or, How to End the Civil War)

"Send a bale or two to the Thalmor, that'll chill them out and they'll be true High Elves again. Who cares about Talos worship anyways?"

"Whooooaah... yeah..."

Vilkas: You're not doing what that thing wants, are you?

Silvercat: Recovering the lost knowledge of the Dwemer through the blood of living Mer today? This cannot be overlooked.

Vikas: Mages...

The quest is for the Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora, whose acolyte wants you to gather samples of blood from each of the mer races, including orcs and falmer, so he can replicate Dwemer blood to unlock a Dwemer box that requires the blood of a Dwemer.

Kind of a moral dilemma for Silvercat, who has seen the likes of the Daedric Princes Hircine and Molag Bal and has no love for them. But gathering small samples of blood from mer already killed in combat with a Dwemer device so greater mysteries can be unlocked seems harmless enough...

This screenie captures so well what Vilkas, a Nord warrior who is recently freed from Hircine's curse, lycanthropy, by Silvercat, and who is Silvercat's spouse, must think of this mage and elf business.

I posted this because I've seen yet again the "Bioware is so much better than TES because of STORY" argument. This time, DA2 is better than Skyrim, because Skyrim is boring and its characters are flat.

Bioware is great, that's true. They make great stories. DA2 turned out to be a hell of a lot better than everyone claims it is. But I get bored with DA2. I don't feel the story is my own, neither is the character.

With TES the character and the story is my own.

Silvercat added a Blue Roan. He may as well have a ranch!

Doing a Companions Quest, sent to these towers to retrieve a shard of an artifact.

Horses in Skyrim or Oblivion will attack and fight, like any good trained war mount will do.

Been playing Skyrim on PC, with Silvercat. Really getting a good story for him, and playing an alternate scenario- just as he wasn't the Nerevarine or the Hero of Kvatch for Morrowind or Oblivion respectively, he isn't the Dovakhiin here.

No main quest. That means, no dragons >:] (they are a pain in the ass, anyways)

It took me a long while to fiddle with settings, mods, and lighting to get what I want with an older Silvercat.

It's still not perfect, but it captures his character well.

Some mod notes and character background for SilvercatCollapse )

Been playing Dragoborn, some of it is fun. Love Neloth, but the rest of the Morrowind retcon is just awful. For one, Serjo is an honorific address reserved for Councilors, nobility, and other persons of great rank. Muthsera is more appropriate for honorific address to others. And the Redoran guards, they weren't so rude in Morrowind, just "why are you here?" or "Why are you bothering me?" if your reputation is low. Then they are polite when your reputation climbs, even if you aren't Redoran. Here they are just rude no matter how much you've done for Councilor Morvayne. If anything has convinced me of how much the writers don't have a feel for Morrowind is the Severin Manor that you get for finishing the Redoran quests. It's dark and creepy, grayish with the dreary cave exploring music. The Velothi buildings of the Redoran in Morrowind have grandeur, and they are warm, if majestic, and cozy when they aren't so big. Somebody needs pull their heads out of their asses and go back and actually play Morrowind with heart, and maybe they will even see that it was a big mistake to invoke the "It was a dark and stormy night" meme of Rocks All Fall Down Everyone Dies. So trite.

They completely retconned the fate of Ravenrock. In Oblivion we hear Ravenrock was a complete and dismal failure. Now it's said that it operated quietly without major problems before and during the Oblivion crisis. They even use the old commander of the old Imperial fort in Solstheim in a twisted way. A minor character, but he was decent for an Imperial. But nothing is sacred...

Talvas is okay, I guess, as a follower. Don't know if he is marriageable. Probably not. I am more used to Brelyna Maryon because of her character build, she works so well with Sage. I like her a lot as a character and a follower, but there's no chemistry for marriage. Probably because Sage would be happier with a male. As I had said earlier I was thinking of modding Sage as a follower, a young Telvanni mage out in the world to learn of it, but I wonder now if I should focus instead of making a follower and marriage partner that would be ideal for Sage, someone he would be happy with. I've had enough of doom and gloom and angst that is so popular these days. Blub blub "but bad things happen" we must love misery, wahhh. I deal with depression enough and I don't need that shit.

Looking around, there are some voice changer programs, hmm, to make a follower/spouse with a hot voice and some great romance/smut lines... which is so seriously missing in Skyrim.

I found, though, a way to import your xbox game save to PC (and back, if you want to import a modded something in your xbox savegame.) So I can import what Sage looks like and smooth it out and make him not so grungy and wrinkled. He can still look eldritch without looking so haggard.

[This cheat is extreme]This cheat is extreme and it works. Too well. It takes work to craft something moderately cheating with this glitch. You have to play with it. And be careful because your health, magicka, stamina gets boosted too high you can do permanent damage to your unmodified scores. So it's best to not equip anything that boosts those scores while the created Fortified Restoration potion effects lasts.

It's super overpowering- especially against so many underpowered foes, but damn, it's fun to craft a pair of unenchanted ebony swords and pwn stupid overpowered bandit chiefs.

I bet it will be patched soon, but it's fun to play with for now.

How I did it:

I started with 32 in alchemy, no perks. Enchant 80 with 5/5 100% in the first rank of perks in Enchanting.

I used:

Circlet of Peerless Alchemy at 25%
Falmer mask 20%
ring 20%
necklace 20%
gloves 20%

It's slow at first, then suddenly gets high powered.

A major goal of mine, the ideal Nuke Mage. In which game is this possible?

I found it. This beats out Oblivion or Dragon Age.

Morrowind.
Telvanni. (Well, okay, any self-respecting mage with Destro and Conjuration)
Horatio Casting
Leveled Magicka
Awesome Storms
Atronach Expansion
Absorb Magicka Spell
Lifetap
health regen
Tireless Running

Completely wiped out a couple of battles that have always been tough for me. Woot!

Warning: you balanced game types will find this overpowered, even without the Awesome Storms mod.

[The idea of making my Skyrim character into a companion mod... here's some responses and lines I though of- he's not completely lore friendly]

“I was grown from a glass jar from the flesh of Master Aryon of Tel Vos, a technique Master Aryon had learned from his master, the famed Divayth Fyr.”

“I am here to explore and study the Dwemer ruins of Skyrim, and to bring back Dwemer artifacts to Tel Vos. I study the flora, and other unusual aspects of this land as well. Blackreach is of great interest to me, also. I may as well have a look at the College of Magic, although I have no need of its instruction.”

"The Sea of Ghosts. The Nerevarine had recovered an old Imperial report of strange anomolies in this area- that report was in a Dwemer ruin where an excavation crew had lost their Dunmer guide. Dwemer centurions seem to be tied in with the effects of the Sea of Ghosts."

"When have we been reduced to learning magic only from books?"

“So he was a true Telvanni after all.” About the Archmage Savos Aren after his trickery using his colleagues to contain Morokei is revealed.

Dark Elf- “That’s Dunmer.”

Morrowind- “Resdayne”

“There is nothing like a bright morning in Sadrith Mora, or a quiet evening at Tel Vos.”

"Magnificent," at one of the more impressive views of barrows.

“Do you believe everything you hear? You think Dunmer are broken by a volcano... we are of the lava and ash." at any mention of Red Mountain.

"The Companions. I hear they are a worthy company."

“Filthy Hlaalu.” coming across any of the Hlaalu.

"These tombs and their draugir are fascinating. What arts have the Nords lost over the years?" entering any of the Dragon Priest tombs, or the major drauir lord tombs.

"These dragons are like cliff racers. Annoying."

"Cliff racers! I am homesick already," if cliff racer mods are used.

"It looks like Saint Jiub's job is not done. Where are his old bones?" alternate line to cliff racer mods.

“They don’t even Levitate. Why hide in this ice hole? Resdayne is home to true Dunmer.” Dragon Born Solstheim.

“Old Neloth. Chewing his cud after all these years. How many Sload have died to keep his bones warm?” about Neloth.

“Glass Jars are indispensable.”

“Of course I can Levitate. Where does that leave you?”

“The Test of Pattern.... Fascinating. We should investigate.” any Dwemer ruin.

“A place of strange beauty and hidden knowledge! Much research can be undertaken here.” Blackreach.

"The Nirnroot holds many mysteries, as does the Nirn itself." A Return to Your Roots, Sarethi Farm. Sinderion's Field Laboratory in Blackreach.

“He was a true scholar. My father had much respect for him,” about Sinderion.

“Absolutely marvelous. My father would study this at length, and I should take notes,” Retrieving the Elder Scroll and Hermaus Mora’s quest, Discerning the Transmundane.

"With the right equipment much can be done with this Atronach Forge."

“Azura. Boethiah. Mephala. You take me for a fool? I know these Daedra Princes. They are our ancestors and they have taught us of the elder Chimer how to survive our lands under the leadership of Veloth.”

“Turn that blade against me and that will be the last thing you ever do,” Ebony Blade, Mephala’s quest.

“I will remain here until you find some lackwit to sacrifice,” if ordered to be victim for Boethiah’s quest. (will be impossible.)

“Azura’s Star. Will she allow tampering with it? We shall see.”

“The might and cunning of Molag Bal. These are indeed his times.”

"The Psijics take magic from us a dribble at a time."

"The Eye of Magnus rightfully belongs to the Mer. The wonders we could have discovered with it."

"The lowly kwama warns by its behavior of impending tremors, magical or not. It knows the land of Vvardenfell the way we know our ancestors through the bone. Or chitin."

"The scriptors of the Elder Scrolls must be insane, or have lost their touch with the numinous. Insane is divine; losing the numinous is a slow rotting death unworthy of heroes."

“Lore is to be experienced through the bone like the Ancestors themselves. You can’t study and quote it like a tiresome pedantic.”

"Yes, my father is very much alive and well. He is taking advantage of the times to advance Tel Vos by opening egg mines and recovering ebony mines. You think we Telvanni comply with Imperial Census takers by revealing our numbers?"

“They should fight back. They have forgotten how to be Dunmer.” About the Gray Quarter.

“It seems everyone is Telvanni these days.” Brand-Ei.

“My father said this was an ill-advised expedition,” Pride of Tel Vos wreck.

“Shalidor. The great Archmage of the First Age. How much has been forgotten since?” Shalidor’s Maze.

“How do you think we are getting rich? There is a great demand for the purses, boots, belts, and other leather goods in Cyrodiil and High Rock.” About the Argonian invasion.

“I should grow a mushroom tower here.”

“Stupid Orc. Cyrodiil’s priories overflows with scriptorium desks. Order a few and get these mages copying the books so they can be shared.” About the Mage’s College’s library.

“Elsweyr Fondue is a delicacy. I could get addicted to it.”

“What I would do for a kwama egg. Some saltrice and scuttle, washed down with shein.”

“We Dunmer do not eat horses. You’ve been reading Imperial literature. Haven’t you learned how to discern authorial intent and motive?”

“The Sweetroll. Azura herself graced us mere mortals with its divine recipe.”

“Velehk Sain. May he sail and rule the seas terrorizing all.” about the Dremora pirate released in the middens. Forgotten Names quest.

"He's an all right fellow. I think he would get along great with my father. They are each quite the scholar." about Tolfdir of the College of Mages.

"This painting of the Rise of the Emperor Crab- Why does everyone fawn over it? It looks like a rabid mole crab."

"This should be rich," about Arniel's Endeavor.

"I am taking plans of these Dwemer convector ovens. They can be developed into useful technology."

"Keening. What traitor smuggled brought it here?"

"Three times. That's three times." Arniel striking the soul gem with Keening.

"Idiot. Now you see there is no mystery to the fate of the Dwemer?" Arniel's folly.

"One's weight in ash? One's weight in ebony." about Ravyn Imyan of the Theives Guild.

"I miss shien, sujamma, and greef. But, damn, this mead is good." Honningbrew Meadery.

"We should raise bees in the Ascadian Isles. Fascinating creatures and their pollination will help the local flora. I will suggest this to Father." Goldenglow Estate.

“I would have liked very much to have met Sotha Sil. Of the old Tribunal, he was most like we Telvanni.”

“Shall we sing the ballad of the Fall of the Baby Queen of Alinor and the Mindless Hordes of Tri-Alliance?” at the Bard College.

"I wish the Bard's College would do more, and live the stuff of epics."

“Vampires. Specimens. We Telvanni dissect them. They make for interesting study.”

“I could almost live here, if I did not long for home,” about Markarth.

“Control is the mark of the master,” at careless use of magic.

"I say we side with the dragon. To Oblivion with the Blades." about Paarthurnax.

"It matters not. Skyrim is shattered and perhaps its children will no longer affect the world." about taking sides in the Civil War.

"Skyrim is shattered and it slowly sinks into Oblivion with the rest of Mundus in a slow meaningless death."

"The Official Nerevarine. I am sure the Nerevarine would have taken exception to a man living in a basement of Balmora writing this biography." About the Life and Times of the Nerevarine found in High Hrothgar.

skills:

Conjuration, Destruction, Alteration, Enchant, Illusion, Sneak, Archery

In my own story line, he is born of a glass jar, from the flesh of Master Aryon and my Nerevarine Saje Eldros.

But, I thought, Sage was never happy in Skyrim. Too homesick and the Red Mountain business. IDK. He'd go there to study the Dwemer ruins and Blackreach, but would not remain there for long.

How Morrowind and KotOR defined modern RPGs.

My two all time favorite games/stories.

The article concerns itself with graphics, game engines, and presentation on Xbox. But what is missing is the fact that Morrowind and KOtOR are the golden age of RPGs, along with Kotor II, Oblivion, Dragon Age: Origins/Awakening and the original Mass Effect.

Something has happened. The Mass Effect 3 ending. The retcon of KotOR with a poorly written book. The retcon of Morrowind, again based on poorly written tie in books. The insistance on the trend of MMORGs. The loss of the spirit of these stories. RPG like this will never be seen again. Skyrim is probably the last of the great games.
