How Morrowind and KotOR defined modern RPGs.

My two all time favorite games/stories.

The article concerns itself with graphics, game engines, and presentation on Xbox. But what is missing is the fact that Morrowind and KOtOR are the golden age of RPGs, along with Kotor II, Oblivion, Dragon Age: Origins/Awakening and the original Mass Effect.

Something has happened. The Mass Effect 3 ending. The retcon of KotOR with a poorly written book. The retcon of Morrowind, again based on poorly written tie in books. The insistance on the trend of MMORGs. The loss of the spirit of these stories. RPG like this will never be seen again. Skyrim is probably the last of the great games.

Well, not only has Knights of the Old Republic been hit by canon retcon, now Mass Effect, which has been untouched by "canonicity," has been sold down the river.

The Mass Effect movie is being made, and it's about Commander Shepard. A male Shepard, in fact. Which is really besides the point, because I love my renegade soldier/commando Dude!Shep who is in the exact image of my favorite soldier/Guardian DSM Revan. That this movie disregards player choice is against Bioware's policy.

Bioware claims it puts out a game that players will feel that it is their own, but their actions show otherwise.

Karpyshin is feverishly writing REVAN, eager to put out his own official version of Revan, filled with retconned features.

No, Bioware, your games are not about the players, it's about your Stu Karpyshins.
