There's a challenge at lighthouse_the to write a recap of an episode or a movie. I've wanted to watch the seasons for Doctor Who with the Thirteenth Doctor for a while now, so I used the challenge as an opportunity to watch the first episode. :D I was completely unspoiled (other than the two times where I say I already knew it, and what I know is not any of the ~important~ things anyway :P). I have watched about 15-ish episodes of other Doctors (Eleven, Ten and Nine), not in any order. So I am familiar with the general concept of the show, but not with any intricacies or most references.

This recap is pretty much just a live-blog, I wrote it as I watched. I didn't change anything when I was proof reading and already knew what happened next - these are all my very first reactions. Maybe someone will be entertained by this long-ass post. :D

I'm a sucker for platonic relationships that don't get a lot of screentime but have a few of those absolutely perfect conversations and scenes that I want to rewatch over and over. So Quentin and Margo from The Magicians (TV) was my first thought when I saw this challenge, and that's what I ended up sticking with. ♥ (I absolutely adore Eliot and Margo too. And Quentin and Eliot and Margo. And Quentin and Eliot. And I could totally just go for the OT3, but the fact that Quentin and Margo seems to be the pairing with the least screentime makes it feel the most appealing somehow. :D)

The essence of this relationship? Take the bright-eyed dork and the "mean girl", have them become BFFs and have a platonic threesome in the meantime. Margo quite obviously adores Quentin since pretty much the day they met, but it takes Quentin a really long time to realize that she even likes him at all, which is kinda sad, but also very Quentin (he's not just bright-eyed, he's also depressed and awkward). And they both love the Fillory book series! ♥ Margo turns out to be a total nerd too, while keeping up her cool persona, she is just less open about it than he is.

I'm going to share five of my favorite scenes. ♥ They kinda don't have all that many more scenes than that, lol.

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers - my first "real" fandom, so to speak. :) I was 5-6 in 1989-1990 when it aired, so it wasn't a fandom where I met other fans yet (that only started happening when I was 11-ish), but other than that I did everything you could do in a "real" fandom. I drew the characters constantly for at least 2 years, I tried to make my own action figures out of plaster (didn't look anything like action figures, but hey, at least I had them :D), I collected everything I could (which was very, very little when you didn't live in the US). I even said that the Rescue Rangers were my imaginary friends (I never had an imaginary friend but I thought it was a cool concept xD).

When it stopped airing I didn't stay "in the fandom", which I know a lot of people did (there are adults drawing these giant elaborate comics, I found one of them in 2005 and I was in awe). So it's more like a past "warm and fuzzy" thing for me, with some re-watches here and there. But the warm and fuzzy feelings are strong. ♥

The scenes I chose for the sig tags have no logic behind them other than they are some of the "I'm going to replay this until the tape wears out" scenes I had back then. :D (As you can probably tell, Gadget has always been my favorite character. I also adored Tammy, who was a one-off character, but she didn't make the selection when I was choosing the scenes.)

I went completely outside the box here. Silly and cracky and making actual graphics with the heist plan. Because kids can do a heist too. :D It was a whole lot of fun (which is why I'm already finished with my entry, I just had to start immediately)! ♥

We are happy and excited to share with you our new project (sister project to awesome-things-about-myself on tumblr): 31 Days of Yourself challenge!

Girls and women as a class are, since very early childhood, socialized into behaviors that are harmful and self-destructive. Being "nice", "polite" and "ladylike", denying yourself basic needs like food and rest, defining yourself by relationships with other people and sacrificing yourself for them... All of these (and many more) attitudes and behaviors are seen as values and something to aspire to as a girl and woman. And all of them lead to not putting yourself and your well-being first in your own life, not loving yourself (or hating yourself), and not even knowing yourself as an individual well enough.

That's the reason we (jacquelee and dance_the_dance, a happily married lesbian couple) came up with this challenge.

In the first month of the new year (or in any other month you choose, if you don't end up doing it in January) you have a chance to focus on you, to do what you love doing, to get to know yourself better and to put yourself first.

The challenge is a pretty unusual one. If you want to you can do it only for and with yourself. You don't need to write answers to daily questions or post them on your blog or anywhere else. The daily challenges are small actions (with long descriptions) rather than questions. That said, if you want to keep a journal about the whole challenge, or answer some of the daily challenges in writing (since the possibility exists), you are always welcome to do so. If you post about it to tumblr, twitter, facebook or other media with hashtags (whether it's your daily entries or general thoughts about the challenge), you can tag with #31daysofyourself.

The challenge is livejournal- and tumblr-based simply because that's where we spend the most time. Feel free to do it and share it with people absolutely everywhere on the internet, or even offline if you want to. All public posts we make about it are yours to link far and wide. :)

General likes and dislikes:

I LOVE gen fics. Character studies or at least character-centric rather than plotty. Childhood backstories are my #1 favorite thing which you can see when you read the details below, whether they're canon or headcanon (actually, especially when they're headcanon). YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THESE, no matter which fandom you write. :)

I don't really care about shippy fics and romance at all, so I'd rather not have any ships in the fic unless it's still very character-centric.

Please no abuse that doesn't already exist (or at least is hinted at) in canon.

I can't get enough of backstories, especially childhood ones. Or anything at all (gen) about these characters in season 1 or season 2. Island-related revelations and/or parallels between backstory and current events are literally my #1 favorite thing and would be AWESOME.

I would LOVE a Hera post-series fic, especially shortly post-series when she's still a child or a teenager, but anything later would be good too. Any gen fic about the other characters would be great too, especially childhood backstories.

Any gen fic about anyone would be fabulous! I'm loving the girls from Girls United, I'd love a fic with any canon or headcanon backstory for any of them, especially Daphne (and her daughter) or Kiara. Or a canon fic about all the girls as a group. Or something about Callie's childhood. Or Mariana's and/or Lexi's childhood. Or Lena's or Stef's backstory from any time before they met. Or Callie and Mariana being awesome (or just cute) together.


Being Erica
Sarah Wexler, Doctor Naadiah

I'd love a post-series Sarah fic with Erica as her doctor. Definitely more focused on Sarah and her backstory (from any part of her life, there is SO MUCH to choose from!) than on Erica, obviously. Or something about Doctor Naadiah's family and personal life. Or her as a therapist of an original (female) character.


True Blood
Tara Thornton, Luna Garza, Emma Garza

I would especially love an Emma fic, about what her life is now and how she grows up. But I would love any gen fic about any of these characters, especially childhood backstories.
