Terrain Essentials by Mel Bose

My copy of Terrain Essentials by Mel Bose (also known as The Terrain Tutor) has arrived. I'll give a more detailed review once I have had chance to read through, but my initial impression is that it is quite a hefty tome and the production values are top-notch.

I found this You Tube flip-through should you wish to see more - follow the link for a comprehensive review.

I first started following this Kickstarter back in April 2019 and agreed to the $45.00 pledge for a soft-bound book. Since then the page count has increased to 192 and the cover has become a hard-bound book.

I'll give more details soon.

Olde World into the Wild Kickstarter - final day!

I will be watching with interest as the Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter counts down. For more information see this link or use the Label Oldhammer on the right.

Good luck Ryan/Rob.

Tony

Update;
£2914.00 pledged from a £1000.00 goal. Congratulations to Ryan.

Now the hard work starts.

The Witches Hovel

Here is the latest terrain piece for the Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter - Olde World Into The Wild. The Witches Hovel or Cottage. The master was sculpted by me as a super stretch goal, but as the Kickstarter has gone so well Ryan has agreed to include it as an 'Add On'. Here you see it beside the Two Storey House to show just how big this beauty is.

For more information please use this link.

The model is unique in this range as it has a fully modelled interior and a lift off thatched roof.

Act now as there is less than a week to go on this Kickstarter and I know that once the initial pledges have been made, Ryan is looking to remove the discounted price option.

I hope you like it.

Oldhammer Kickstarter from Apocalypse Miniatures goes live

The Oldhammer Kickstarter from Apocalypse Miniatures is now live, full details can be found here.

Most of the masters were sculpted by me and then cast in resin by Hysterical Games.  Further details can be found on this Blog, by searching the Label - Kickstarter or Oldhammer, there are also updates over on The Lead Adventure Forum, see this link.

Good luck with the project.

The model was built by me and comes with alternative bases, a flagstone base and this rough ground base.

Oldhammer Kickstarter - update

Here is an example of the painted Apothecaries Rest. The image was taken from the latest update on The Lead Adventure Forum, for details see this post.

The masters for most of the buildings were sculpted by me and cast in resin by Rob Alderman of Hysterical Games. Further images can be found here.

I think you will agree the painted example looks fantastic.

The Oldhammer Kickstarter is now planned for launch very soon and I will update the Blog once I have more information.

The Stone Bridge for the Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter

This is another image of the finished stone bridge that I built for the Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter Campaign. I am particularly proud of this model as it used a new DAS sculpting technique rather than a core structure covered in DAS. When the shape was fully defined and the DAS was set, I carved the stonework with scalpel, before refining the shape with a large needle. Additional texturing was done with sandpaper and a wire brush.

I have a resin cast (cast by Rob Alderman of Hysterical Games) and I will be painting it up very soon.

The Kickstarter is due to be launched later this year and I will add further details once I have more information.

Apocalypse Miniatures Stables

This is a pre-production image of the latest model made by me for the Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter - The Stables. Like the earlier models this 28mm/30mm scaled building should be released later this year as part of an OldeHammer Kickstarter featuring around a dozen buildings and terrain pieces.

You can see some more posts on the Lead Adventure Forum by clicking on this post.

Apocalypse Miniatures Resin Farmhouse

This is an image of my very latest master for the Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter, which I have been working on. The model is of an Old Farmhouse and will be dropped off to Rob at Hysterical Games tomorrow. Details of the Kickstarter can be found either on my Blog using the Oldhammer label or on the Apocalypse Miniatures Web page. In addition, I am aware that Ryan is posting images and comments on this Lead Adventure thread.

The official launch is due later this year, with comments on all sites, mentioning a late Spring/early Summer launch. I will keep this Blog updated with any developments.

Pig Sty for Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter

Sue and I were babysitting in Leamington Spa yesterday afternoon, looking after our grandson Finley. On the way over I stopped off at Hysterical Games to drop off the latest masters to Rob Alderman for the Olde Hammer - Apocalypse Miniatures Kickstarter and picked up this example of the Pig Sty casting that I sculpted some time ago - this is the very first resin cast of this model which will feature as part of the Kickstarter campaign due to be launched later this year.

I didn't stay long as Rob and Hannah were busy re-arranging some storage shelving for the tons of newly cast resin, hopefully I can visit later in the year and spend more time discussing the different projects Rob is working on.

Kickstarter - Oldhammer Stone Bridge

This is an image of the very first resin cast of a Stone Bridge that will be part of a planned Kickstarter campaign due later this year. The Kickstarter will feature over a dozen themed models sculpted by me, cast by Hysterical Games and available from Apocalypse Miniatures. For details see this link.

I was given this model when I met up with Rob earlier this week and Ryan at Apocalypse Miniatures has given me permission to feature the model on this Blog.

The final two images show the master prior to being moulded and cast. It is 210mm long, 100mm wide and 55mm tall. The narrowest part of the upper roadway (at the bow or top of the bridge) is 37mm wide.

Further details of this Kickstarter will be made available closer to the launch date, but I will try to offer teasers or previews over the next couple of months.

It is my hope that the full collection will be made available with the first launch. Stay tuned for further details and good luck to Ryan with this adventure.

2017 - Looking Forward

In my previous post I talked about what had been the highlights for me in 2016. In this follow-up post I will be writing about my plans for 2017.

Firstly; Dampfpanzerwagon Guide No. 3 - Models for Wargamers. I have already written that the main content is finished, I am now in the process of having it proof read and formatted ready for publication which I hope will be ready for Alumwell WMMS in March. I am not expecting a Book Four. For the main reason that I have been commissioned to write for the Publisher Pen & Sword. The new book (and maybe even a series of books) will feature specifically themed books, for example Napoleonic Terrain and the first should be available within the year. In fact I have already started on the first two chapters.

Secondly; I have throughout 2016 been working on a whole series of 28mm/30mm Fantasy buildings and terrain which are planned to be cast in resin and available as a Kickstarter. At the moment the range includes over a dozen highly detailed models that will be useful for both traditional fantasy games and historical games. I have already seen some of the first and although I mastered them myself, I think they look fantastic (no-pun intended!) Expect more information and images very soon. The Kickstarter itself has no firm start date at this moment but I know that the plans are for a full launch around mid year. I will of course post links on the Blog once I have more details.

Thirdly; I will be exhibiting at The West Midlands Military Show, Alumwell, on Sunday March 12th. This will be my second time as an exhibitor and I look forward to showing off some of the more recent scratch-builds as well as launching the third book in the Dampfpanzerwagon Guide series - Models for Wargamers.

I would hope that I will be able to continue writing for Wargame magazines, but these maybe a little less frequent and my personal goal is to get back to painting figures, as I have missed sitting at my desk and painting miniatures.

Happy New Year.

Tony
